Endo and Sciatica????
I have not posted for a long time. But I'm having a problem, and have a question. 7 years ago had a complete hysterectomy because of endo. About a year and a half ago I had a colonostomy test done. Dr. found endo adhesions up in the beginning of the colon, which would be my right side. I've had pain there since about a year after the surgery which tends to get worse when I take the estrogen every day for a long time.
Now, about 13 months ago I developed pain in my lower back which extended down my left leg. They did an MRI, determined it was Sciatica. In the past three months the pain has increased and is much worse. They've done another MRI and I go to see a new neurosurgeon on July 20th., to see if anything else is going on.
Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with my gyn. He's the one who initially did the hyst. I have had this question...could the endo possible have any effect whatsoever on my back? Are there adhesions on a disc somewhere?
If anybody has an answer I'd appreicate it.
Thanks..

Endo and Sciatica????
There is a related diagnosis called pseudo-sciatica, where the sciatic nerve is being pinched by something other than a slipped disc. It is usually less pinched than if it was bone (ie. a disc), so it doesn't go too far down your leg, usually not as far as your knee. In "real" sciatica, the pain goes all the way down your leg.
In my case, it was being pinched by deformed musculature, but I suppose adhesions could cause something similar. Since mine was muscular, it was helped by massage therapy - it hurt like he** while the therapist was doing it, but always felt much better the next day. Now that I can exercise consistently, it rarely bothers me.

Endo and Sciatica????
Thanks Julie for telling me that! My gyn on Friday said the only way to determine if endo has anything to do with this, is to stop the estrogen therapy for an entire month!!
So I'm trying!! It is sciatica where the pain goes all the way down my leg and my left foot gets numb a lot.
Thanks...
