shaving for TAH?

Do they shave you for a TAH? And would it be best to do it myself?

They will probably shave you a bit...Ask your DR at pre-op...I can't imagine getting the bandage off, without coming off the bed, had there been hair to get pulled...OUCH!

but I shaved myself...My DH used to work as an emergency room nurse, and he told me to do it myself...he said that I would have A LOT less razor burn doing it myself...That's just my !!! Some might not suggest doing it yourself...

Good luck!

shaving for TAH?

I was shaved with my first ab surgery(Can you say razor burn? ), so I always try to remember to shave myself b4 any surgery now. Alas, most of the time, my nurses go ahead and do it again to get any stray hairs that may have grown since I shaved to begin with, sooooooooo it was always kinda like dang it all I cannot win! lol.

I was not shaved. The nurses were kind of surprised that they didnt have orders to do that. I hadnt thought to ask about it. After my TAH, the incision was above the hairline so no problem with bandage removal. I asked my gyn at the after-hyst appointment and he said that it depends on the individual, but most times he doesnt order shaving. He said it is one less irritation for us to endure!

I was specifically told not to do it myself because of risk of infection (nicking, ingrown hair).
They did it in pre-op - not a lot but enough to be a nuisance growing back at the same time I was bandaged for incision infection - OUCH!!!

Be sure to ask your doctor before you shave yourself prior to surgery. Some doctors/hospitals don't want you to because if you have any nicks and/or cuts, your surgery could be cancelled for risk of infection.

I would advise you to ask your Dr. My DR told me not to shave one week before the surgery. I had a TAH and the DR 's shaved me for the procedure. Good luck!
