Anyone with a NG tube or Jackson Prep???

Hi,

I would love to compare recovery notes with anyone who has had a NG tube or Jackson prep drain after surgery. My TAH was emergency and long with other complications, which is how I ended up with these things.

My NG was in for four hideous days and 16 days post op, I can still feel where it was in the back of my throat. My Jackson prep area is the most sore (more than my incision area).

Anyone with a NG tube or Jackson Prep???

I have had a Jackson Pratt(bulb or bottle like) drain, and they can be troublesome and a little gross.(Ugh bad memories, lol) Mine was placed on the left side of my tummy. I had to wear a binder, and I was constantly worried that it would affect the drain, but it turned out ok. The worst part was having to measure the amount in the drain twice a day. I had to keep a journal and could not have it removed until the drainage was under a certain amount. It really didn't pain me at all until after the drain was removed. I was glad to have it in, but I wondered if it really did its job very well because I had a whole lot of drainage from the incision site itself even with the drain in. The nurse advised me to take a pain pill before removal and I did, the removal itself didn't hurt at all. It sure hurt after it was out though, gosh darn it lol. As it healed it sure was itchy!
Other family members have had ng tubes, but I don't really feel I could comment on it because I never had one, sorry. If you have questions, I may be able to help with the drain q's. TC Jenn
