I live in the southeast (Florida). It is hard to walk for any length of time because of the heat--it would not be so bad if I could go home and jump in the pool, but there is no swimming allowed yet. My doctor told me today that I could go back to work on 8/20. I wish I could go sooner (need money), but I also understand that I am not ready yet. I was out for about 2 hrs today, and I am feeling it. I have help at home (teenagers) so it is not so bad. I will do as I am told because I don't want to jeopardize being out of work any longer. Hang in there, it takes some time to get over this kind of thing--there are hundreds of internal stitches that need healing before we can resume normal activity. Our bodies will tell us when we have done too much (learned that this weekend).

LAPVH, both ovaries and cervix--let's not even talk about menopause!!

Don't feel bad, Stefanari. Listen to your body and do as much as you comfortably can. Any kind of walking is a good thing. Keeps things "moving", if you catch my drift! I know it's harder to get around with a TAH because of the healing of your muscles. Be patient with yourself. I know this time next year, you'll be running laps around the neighborhood!

I am glad you all are doing so well. Sorry some of you have to go back to work so soon, that is no fun

Everyone have a good day
TAH 7/20 kept ovaries
Take your time Stephanie. I've been a couch potato since I got home. This will be my first walk.

Thanks for the sympathy about work. I feel a little nervous, but excited too. They gave me a wonderful new laptop the day before my surgery to entice me back

Cheers to everyone!

No, Stephanie, please don't feel bad. Do what/when you can -- time is such a relative thing, and I am pushing just a wee bit on account of needing to be able to carry a laptop and a (very small, I promise) suitcase on Saturday. Couches are very good things -- you totally deserve this chance to just take care of yourself.

By the grace of God therefore go I...

Can you say happy to be done and over with? I went to the castle on 7/23. My surgery was supposed to be at 2:45 pm but my doc had complications on his case before me so I didn't see inside the OR until after 4:30. And didn't get to my room until 11:30 pm! I had an spinal which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but man when they got inside it was bad.

I had:

a min-myo to get in there since I had a huge fibroid on my lower uterus first.

had adhesions everywhere so everything was stuck together like cement glue. My doc and 3 others were pulling for hours to get stuff off of each other to get my uterus out.

I lost 4 liters of blood so I had to have a transfusion. I can feel the difference. (Vive la diference!)

All my veins in my arms collasped more or less and I threw up on tuesday OOOOOUUCCH!!

I have a ridiculous # of Staples that I don't even want to look at.

by Wed I was walking around by myself, going to the bathroom after they took the catheter out, having bowel sounds and eating solids on thursday.

Thursday I told them no more IV's (even saline was burning at that point). Find it in a pill because you are not sticking me and they did

Friday I came home!!

So I am doing much better, I am trying to talk my way into a BM (it's there just wont' come out all the way) and get my staples out tomorrow. Once that happens I will be good to go.

I hope no one else had a rough time but if you did just hang in there. It will get better! Thanks for all of your prayers for us gals for last week. They really helped.

P.S. I love my doc to pieces (+ all my women visitors thinks he's cute lol)

P.S.S had a naughty dream about me and the hubby and I could feel 'sensations' so I am REALLY HAPPY NOW! C'mon Sept!

Yikes Madam, what a story! You sound in infinitely good spirits, so clearly you are well on your way. If you page back through the natterings of all of us, you'll find a good idea or two or three for foods to help those bowels do their job...good luck with that (it's the only pain I have left after 10 days, and it's relatively minor and rare). Thanks for letting us all know!

And PS to you, for heavens sake WHAT is naughty about dreaming about your hubby?! ;-)

Phew 1st real outing

Ok just got back from my first real outing and I am done for it. We went to dinner at my favorite Mex place which was sad I hardly ate but it did taste yummy then we went to Blockbuster and drove through Starbucks for an Orange creme. Hit a couple of real fun bumps (not)
I felt like everyone was looking at me thinking 'what is her problem she is walking so slow.' It was weird I felt kind of disoreintated.
Hope everyone is having a good evening. I am back in the recliner, reclining and watching the boob tube.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I got out and did a few things. I went to the races to watch hubby race at the dirt track. I had to give it up before my surgery and it is so much harder watching rather than doing. The stairs up and down were hard for me but once seated in my chair I was comfy. I had lots of support. Sunday was uneventful, I am still trying to find the clothes that dont confine me. I went to Target to try and find something cute to wear but I couldnt decide on anything. Talked to DR. office about leg cramps and she said if they were persistant to go to ER. They have all but gone away. I guess the bananas helped. As far as the staple looking thing I guess I will have to wait until next monday when I see her. Walking is getting better, still have some twinge type pains on the left side. Seems like 45 minutes is about all I can handle standing and walking. Take care to all and we will post later......Madam6 hang in there it will get better. Just know we are all praying for your speedy recovery. We have all had our share of ups and downs.....a lot of good remedies on here for speedy BMs, good luck!

Yep I remember Dark Shadows. What gave me away?
I was told that if it hurts, don't do it. I said it hurts after I have walked around for awhile. He said...Stop walking so much. ...sigh.

Guess I will go back to the couch and short walks for a while.

Someone on here said recovery was 3 steps forward, 2 steps back....

Had another lovely walk by the Bay last evening (I am not terribly nice to rub in this lovely place I'm staying...). I discovered that if I walk too fast, I get this weird burning where my left ovary used to be (I think). But slow was okay. Stephanie I know exactly what you mean by everyone staring at you -- I'm so used to hauling bags of groceries and whatever else, that I assume everyone is looking at me and saying what's her problem that she can't even life a bag?! The Mex restaurant will wait for you -- we all have to promise to keep checking in, in a month, 3 months, 6 months.

Barnabusa: Barnabus Collins of course! I haven't thought about that show in mega-years but if I try very hard I might get back the theme music...

Now i have to decide where to put the patch that it won't rub off when I get out of the shower...
