So the last two nights I've slept better... I'm unsure if it's because I've just run myself ragged or because I've broken down and taken one Percocet each night. Whatever it is, I'm glad to have been able to sleep!

My 4-year-old daughter was very curious about my incision, so I showed it to her. Surprisingly, she handled it very well. I think it gave her more understanding as to why mommy is 'hurt'. So, she's very careful with me and reminds me that I can't lift things and do this or that. It's kinda cute.

My 7-year-old son didn't want to see it... doesn't want to see it... not interested at all! lol He knows I'm unable to do our 'normal' stuff. He's been a huge help with feeding the dog, getting the mail, etc. He's such a little man!

I'm also having slight discharge, and was told to expect it for about 6 weeks. I was told before surgery to buy 'real pads', so I did. Unfortunately, I bought them for now reason. Pantyliners are working very well.

I still haven't been brave enough to try to drive, but I'm getting the urge. I want some independence back! Especially since this weekend is tax-free weekend, and I want to shop! Retail therapy is needed. I definitely will be driving in the next week, as my kids go back to school on the 14th.

All in all, I guess things are on the right path. I still have a hard time slowing down, though. I'm still pushing my limits ~ just like a child.

Welcome Demi!

Way to go Angel!

You will be missed Nancy!

Cathy, you ROCK!

Stephanari, I hope you rested well.

I want to drive too! :steer: I was told to stay away from it for a while longer. My 18 year old only has 1 1/2 weeks left with me.

She loves to drive so we will try to do some last minute shopping together before she leaves for college in NE. Oh man! I hate the thought of her going. She is my friend as well as my DD. I am glad she is going to have this experience. Earlier this year she thought she would just stay home and take some classes at the community college here. We would have loved it, but we knew she needed to be more on her own to be committed to her ed.

She is my last to leave the nest. If she is like my sons, she will return, fly away, return, fly away, return.....

Can't wait to be normal.......

Went out with my family to take advantage of tax-free week and back to school sales. Thought that I could handle a day of shopping............NOT!! It has been 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery, everything is going as well as expected---I am completely exhausted from shopping this morning. I also wish that I could go swimming but the Dr says not yet. I am able to drive, but I do understand why they want you to wait. You don't realize how many of your abdominal muscles are used when you drive. Good luck to those of you who are traveling and going back to work and such. I have started to experience the insomnia that some of you have talked about. The night sweats are bothersome---but I am not having too many problems with the BM's. My DH and teenage children have been very helpful around the house. They understand when I don't feel well. Thank you all for listening!! God Bless--

TVH July 23 Age 62

For those of you who still have it ahead.... it isn't really bad at all. I am at
11 days, up and around and driving on brief errands for days now, laying low most of the time. Best advice - stay on the painkillers for about four days instead of trusting how well you feel at the end of four hours.

I have so appreciated the supportive information about the smelly discharge. I can wait that through.

Courage to all of you. Hang in there.

You talking about your DD makes me cringe. Mine is going to be heading off in 2 years and I already get anxious about it. I know she is going to go away to college that is going to hard. I ache when she is gone for a week for a softball tournament in the summers. (She gets home tonight ) Does it get easier with each one or is it just as hard? My youngest is 13 so we have a few more years with him.
Thank you I did get some rest last night, the last couple have been pretty good. Keeping my fingers crossed for more
Well going out to run some errands I might try driving again we shall see. Have a great day

In Good Company--I may not know how many abdominal muscles I use when I drive but I do know how many neck muscles and jaw muscles and middle-finger muscles (just kidding about that last one) I use! :smile2:

Barnie--with your kids coming and going as much as you say they do, you may have to start a new support site called Hysterical Sisters! Mine go back and forth but that's cuz they are still in college and come home for holidays. Later on....who knows?

Stephanie--I'm so glad you got a good rest last night. I could use one now. I went to a teacher inservice this morning after only getting 3 hours of sleep. I think my cat was snoring and it woke me up at 4:30 and I couldn't fall back to sleep no matter what I did. So I got up and logged on and did my Hystersister thing for a little while. That was a good thing to do.

I was supposed to go up to the mountains with my BF today. This was the last fun thing I was going to do this summer. Actually, after having a colonoscopy, a hysterectomy, and a new sewer line put in, spending one night in the mountains was the ONLY fun thing I was going to do this summer. And Dear BF has back problems that crop up every so often and today he can't even bend over to tie his shoes cuz his back hurts too much. Hey wait!! He is wearing flip-flops so no laces to tie. Maybe if I get him to stretch and do his exercises, your sistah Cathy might get a day in the mountains yet. Send me all the positive thoughts you can. Get back to y'all later and thanks for "listening!"

Welcome to the newcomers! We are crazy ladies!! No modesty here, great place to talk about bodily functions that noone else wants to hear, much less compare notes. Well yesterday (day 16 postop) I spent in bed, no reason I just felt like it and was allowed to!!! Today, whole family made a trip to Krispy Kreme (I only had one). The closest KK is 30 mi away. Freaks me out because in Atlanta there was one on every corner, kinda like Starbucks. Then we went to Game Stop. Boys had to check out the new DS accessories (they are gamers) I don't understand the fascination, but then again they don't understand my Thrift Shopping!! Didn't want to overdo it, so they dropped me off and here I am!! Guess What??? Swelly Belly is completely gone! Those green capris got worn in public today I get to drive on Monday, can't wait...interested in seeing how I feel afterwards since my car is a manual 5 speed. Hope everyone is having a happy day. And don't forget that your insides are still raw hamburger......

How far out in Redmond do you live? There is one in Issaquah. You must have really wanted that Krispy Kreme. How long have you lived in WA? I used to live up there actually all of my life until we moved down to Bend.
Sounds like you had a busy day. I did some driving today but mine is an automatic so fairly easy. That is going to be a lot leg work shifting . Good luck to you when you start driving.

Stephanie,
My older boys came and went like Cathy's during the holidays. One got married shortly after graduation but they moved in with us for a month until their jobs began. (they are both HS teachers) My oldest graduated with 2 degrees, moved back in to teach middle school while working on his masters. He has been on his own for a year now. I was grateful for the time to be a parent of adults. We have become more like a group of friends only the old ones are sources of wisdom as well as ridicule.
My husband loves this site. It keeps my complaints to him down to a minimum.

I got to go to Bourne Ultimatum, today! Then walked around downtown for crazy days. I am exhausted but glad to get out. Supposed to teach Bible Class tomorrow..YIKES! :smilie5:
