Good idea!!! Thanks! I thought of enlisting some of last year's parents as well. I also have a couple of friend who teach elsewhere who have offered help. God's lesson here is teaching me to not be so picky about what the classroom looks like.

But I like your idea! Thanks!!

Recovery is a mystery

Wow, it sounds like everyone is definitely healing at her own pace. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today and went for my post-op yesterday. I am feeling really good. My only real consistant issue is sleep and lack of it! I haven't been able to fall asleep or stay asleep even though I am exhausted at the end of the day! She gave me a prescription and I am hoping that will help and get me back into a routine.
School starts 2 weeks from yesterday! yikes! I haven't even been in yet. I can definitely relate to the other teachers out there. I told my principal I will just have to play it by ear if I work whole days or not. I just don't know at this point. I have stopped napping to try to get my body ready but definitely not putting forth the energy I do with my 1st graders!
My incision is healing well. I think I had 14 or 15 stitches but the doctor did a nice job so it looks good.
I am also one of the childless ones but think I pumped myself up so much before hand and had so many friends praying for me that I have been really well emotionally. I really thought I would be greatly depressed (as I was when I found out) but I haven't been.

Well, I have chatted on forever. I never find time to post because I spend so much time reading everyone else's amazing stories that it is always late and I am tired. Now, I jabbered away! Sorry!
Thanks for the sisterhood! I have learned a lot.

Another day of doing too much since I'm back in my wheels! Went to school for the morning to work on software for grading, but of course I spent some time in my classroom moving things around. I also carried an overhead projector because it was offered to me and I didn't want to lose it. I still have to do the teacher's store and get back to decorate.

I kept an appointment after running home for lunch and had a bone density scan and a mammogram. Then I came home and slept for 3 hours! I needed that.

When I saw my principal today she was telling the secretaries that I could very well milk the tiredness of this surgery recovery for a year, because she has also had this surgery. At least she'll understand!

Feel better each day, ladies!!

To the tune Piano Man my apologies Billy Joel

It's 3:30 in the morning,
My restless pup's got me outta bed,
I'm missin' my sleep
I'm wantin' to weep
So I got on-line here instead.

Nah, nah, nah, nah, na-na-nah, nah, nah

So sing me a tune, my sisters.
Anyone else up in the night?
I'm feeling fine,
Just wanted to whine,
Otherwise, I'm feeling alright.

Recovery goes on!!

Hi ladies,
I'm glad things seem to be going well for everyone. A few minor setback, but I guess that is to be expected. For Pete's sake, we need to stop PICKING THINGS UP!!! I am guilty, too.
I am getting ready for school, too, but we homeschool, so I don't really have to decorate, just get my room organized and my books together.
Is anyone else weepy? I have always been an emotional person, but at least now I have something to blame it on!
For anyone who is struggling, I hope it helps to know that someone in Louisiana is praying for you!

Hi Karen,

Weepy? Phew-YES!!!! As I said in my post a little while back, my doctor told me it was to be expectd! I feel like a river is forever flowing from my eyes! Thankfully my family is very understanding, and my darling 15 year old daughter reminds me: "Mom, just think, you'll never have your period again! That should make you happy!" So, yeah, I get put into my place, snap out of it for a little bit, and try to remember that all of the problems I had prior to July 18 are behind me. Now it's on to recovery, taking each day at a time, and only doing what I can do-remembering that I am not SuperWoman and cannot do it all!

"One Day At A Time" easier to say than do, isn't it??? Especially as caregiver to our families (and students, if we teach).

God Bless You All!!! :-)

I am in the same boat also. I still get sooooo tired from doing the simplest of task. I am also so worried about the money. My disability is taking their sweet time and I really think they are trying to dig up something so they don't have to pay me .......

To bakz4 and sweetpea,

I just barely retired from 22 years in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms. Ten years ago I had a mastectomy (don't forget those annual mammograms! - I got to live) and went back too soon to class, after two weeks. My suggestion, after you get help setting up the classroom, would be to teach half days for a while so you can bond well with your new children and get their academics underway. For a few weeks you can let a sub do the funner things with them...and it isn't too hard to make sub plans sitting at the computer as opposed to being up and around coping with everything.
Though physically I was quite well after my breast was taken, I wasn't ready for the stress. Watch yourself. We care.
