Sounds like you had the same thing as me. I am on day 5. I have plenty of help as well. I am on Provera (Progestin). I am having a few hot flashes, feel a bit emotional--but that could also be from the surgery in general, definitely out of sorts. Having a bit of nausea too. I have had burning urination since surgery, not sure if I could have a blatter infection or if it is from him working on my blatter (it was covered with endometriosis, as well as my colon). I go to the doctor on Wed, will ask about it then. I am doing well, trying to move around so I don't get stiff or lazy, and feel very positive about everything. It sounds like you are doing well. Good luck to you.

Pain wise today, I felt pretty good for most of the day. Didn't take any pain meds all day until about 6:00 tonight when I suddenly felt like my insides were gonna fall out of my vagina I guess I overdid it a little somehow. I have been careful not to lift, but I have helped my daughter (3 y/o) up onto my bed a few times, and maybe I shouldn't have done that.

Now, I'm ok cuz the meds have kicked in

However - EMOTIONALLY, I was a *wreck* today! A wreck! I spent most of the day in bed hiding in the bedroom because all I wanted to do was cry about anything and everything and nothing.

I spent a lot of time journaling today and getting a lot of feelings out on paper and that really helps a lot!

I also got to spend a lot of time laughing and playing with my husband and daughter and that made me feel a lot better.

Laughter truly is the best medicine....as long as you don't burst any stitches!

I had my TAH Thurs 7/19/07. All of my worries were for naught. The entire stay at the hospital was a cake walk compared to what I had imagined! I'm sure the morphine had something to do with that They let me come home on the 21st. So far, so good. My incision is oozing a little, no pus so I'm not worried yet. Today, the pain is about a 7, but I'm convinced that it is because I haven't had a bowel movement since the 18th. I've taken the daily stool softeners, lots of oranges (when usually 1 or 2 will do the trick), and tons of water. Does anyone have any idea when the relief will come???? This is my second day home. Yesterday I walked round the house a bit which included walking down the stairs to stand outside (hey, the sun was out and I live in Seattle. You never know when the sun might come back!) This morning proved that yesterday was too much. Thought I was going to have a problem staying in the bed, but once again I "thought" wrong". No problem staying in the bed today. I suggest that we all stay on top of the meds we've been given, because I found out that the pain really is there....

6 days post op

Hi everyone,
It is my sixth day post op and I am doing okay. Yesterday I had diarrhea all day, maybe from the anti inflammatory (Indocid ) medication, so I discontinued them on the advice of the doctor. I had a different anti inflammatory I used prior to surgery without side effects so I am using it now. ( Naproxin ) I have sent my friend out to buy me a pair of support panties from walmart, and I am sure it will help tremendously. If I hold my belly, I have no pain, but if I don't there is pulling, but not too bad, just discomfort. My appetite has been pretty good, and I am getting lots of rest, and walking. This morning my husband and I went to have coffee by the river but of course we stayed in the car. It was nice to get out a bit. I usually sleep a lot during the day, but trying to stay awake more in the afternoon, so it doesn't disrupt my nighttime sleep. This is a great place to vent to others,
thanks Heather

Woo hoo! It's over!!!

I arrived at 10am yesterday for a noon surgery. That pre-op bloodwork I was wondering about...well... they forgot to contact me about it. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal except that they had great difficulty in finding a vein on me (the only small thing on my body!). So, that knocked surgery back a smidge. And then something else knocked it back some more. All said and done, I was in the OR at 2p. All of this time without caffeine, and I was seriously considering tackling the kid with the Mountain Dew in the waiting room.

Surgery was good. They did have to take my right tube and ovary. Yucky scarring and endo. The left had minor scarring and endo, so I got to hang on to those. They told me in PACU that I could use my PCA every 10 minutes. Did I remember this? Um, no, because I was still coming out of anesthesia and every PCA I've had in the past was every hour. So, by 9p last night I was in tears. My pain was an 8. My awesome, awesome nurse figured out what was going on. Pain is now under control at a 3. Hooray!

Just went for my first walk around the halls, and I also got to eat a little Cream of Wheat. Between that and the morphine, I have a smile for everyone I pass in the halls! So far, this has been a really positive experience. I'm sure I'll write more later, but nap time calls.

Thanks to each of my sisters here. You have been an invaluable source of information and inspiration.

Funnymonkey, my bowels were not jumping into action after my LSH last Friday. I told my nurse I planned to use a glycerine suppository Saturday evnening if I had to. She said that wouldn't be a problem, and we verified it with my doctor. I went home Saturday morning and I used the suppository that night. It didn't solve all my problems, I am still "slow and go", but at least I can eat solid foods and the big buldge isn't so tender.

Good luck,
Chirpy1

I had my total hysterectomy July 17th. Its been 1 week and I feel as though I'm finally "out of the fog". Everything has gone OK. I get my staples out at 1:00 today. I cry ALL THE TIME OVER THE SILLIEST THINGS!!!!! I get tired quickly. Sleep soundly. Feel OK. HysterSisters has helped me feel so much better about whats going on and what will happen. I hope to get hormones straightened out soon. I only have 5 more weeks until I go back to work. On the happy side --- I feel like its all going to GREAT when I get back to myself. Have a HAPPY day!!!

Home now !!!

Well I went in on Friday the 20th for my TAH. Woke up friday and was a bundle of nerves and the hospital called me in early because they though the surgery before mine was going to be cancelled and then guess what it was not. So I waited around only to get more nervous. I had an extermely cute anestesiologist which helped mellow meout for some reason.
The surgery took about 2 hours and everything went smoothly they took out my uterus and cervix only as planned and the pathology report all came back negative . So went into recovery and had my typical hard time waking up and the drugs were not even touching the pain. I was in recovery for about 1.5 hours and then the recovery nurse did not get my PCA hooked up correctly so between recovery and getting to my room and my nurse up there trying to figure it out it took almost 2 hours for me to start getting pain meds. Oh lord it was horrible.
I was put on the ortho floor because the surgical floor was full Friday night. So the nurse were used to dealing with different types of surgeries, but they were nice. Sat morning they pulled out the cathater (sp?) and it was time to go pee on my own but when i needed it to the nurse was busy doing a procedure and no one to help me by the time someone got there I was in soo much pain I was crying. Saturday was a rough day - they finally moved to the surgical floor and I a huge headache and in pain all over and was sick to my tummy from the morphine. My nurse up there finally realized that my morphine was set at 2 mg which was too much of a dose so she called my dr and got my some tordal and turned the morphine down to 1 mg and that was the turing point the tummy stopped hurting and by Sunday morning I was able to walk around the floor. and eat some real food by the evening. I also had my first bowel movement which was more scary than painful. They had been giving me colace since Friday. I had some sleep Sunday night and then yesterday morning they took out the staples and sent me home.
It was nice to get home and be comfortable and take a shower in my own shower the hospital one was a little difficult. My MIL made me homemade chicken soup last night which was yum and everyone has been awesome at home.
I am dealing with quite a bit of pain but am able to manage it right now. I know that it is going to be a long recovery but I am going to make this a positive one for sure.

I hope everyone is doing well and getting all the support they need. Take care

Stephanie
Glad to be home and recovering.
