bioidentical hormones

srdandt.....my doc put me on the Climara patch while in the hospital. i read up on it a bit it & it is a bioidentical hormone. apparantly made from soy & yams!! i haven't had any problems with it all. i have a mini hot flash occasionally, but no nite sweats or other menopausal symptoms. i will be 48 in a few weeks, so i plan to wean off the hormones in a few years.

on another note..i worked 4 full days this past week and let me tell you, i am exhausted!!!! i feel really good, just really tired. glad we have a 3 day weekend. my 6 week check up is on tuesday. we usually go camping over labor day weekend....had our favorite spot reserved, but i cancelled it cuz i'm so tired. just didn't think i could handle it this year. i do miss being in the mountains, tho. maybe a little day trip with a picnic tomorrow will do.

ok ya'll....have a great weekend and keep taking those "time outs" when your body tells you to!!

Great, dementia to look forward to?

I have to say I finally felt like housecleaning...so perhaps the dementia is actually upon me! Instead of walking in the California heat wave, I did vigorous housecleaning, the likes of which I only did about once a year...I should not have done it, but, it broke into a sweat and so, I took a shower and felt better. I just know I'm cleaning as the husband's away on a trip...and I like to do it my way, with music blaring and kind of distracted...
it gets done...but I get interrupted, so I do it my way.
I think I felt like I was content to be able to use the vacuum cleaner again after a month and a half.

My daughter is a dancer and said that her teachers always told her that sweat made your skin look young into old age...well, I'm pretty well set up for nice looking skin then!

AS to the cancer, I know my pathology report said it wasn't cancer, but that, I needed to be looked at closely for regrowth of any stuff...as my tumor/lump/alien mass was pretty darn big. They did not leave much for it to grow on though!
As many of the floormates were there for cancer reasons, I almost felt like I was lucky. But, if I had had to have chemo, I guess I had good company in my family. They were so supportive.

It seems to me that if they gave you the reports on the surgery for cancer and you had the operation and it looks clean, then, it probably is but needs checking on frequently. I'd get those questions out of the way with the doctor so they would not wake me up at night. I spent so much time worrying my heart out over cancer, when, I might have been more productive otherwise. They had to warn me that it was still a possibility but the chances were pretty low that that kind of bump was cancer.
OH well, it's over now.

THe AC feels good...**** the bills.

Diana:

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I wrote to tell you that my doctor gave me some bioidentical hormones. Hormone pellets are injected into you and last a lot longer without a lot of repeat visits.

The injection hurt, but I am feeling good. Lots of energy. This morning I did my first 4 mile walk. In the past few weeks, I have been going shorter distances. The walking makes my back feel so much better and stronger.

I have never heard of a doctor saying that at 50, you are done and do not need anymore hormones. Everyone is so different. My sister did not start any menopause until she was 51. Hmmmm

Well, look of hormone pellets on the internet. If you want my doctor's name, I will be happy to share. She is a woman who is going through all of this too. She also had a hysterectomy. She is a great gyno!!! She definitely knows her stuff and keeps current. Everyone at the hospital kept telling me what a good choice I made, and I believe it.

Cheryl,
Wow, I thought if they left your ovaries you didn't have to have hormones. I guess it is true that they're all different. I guess it has to be that way because we're all different. I really honestly think there's no one right "cure" to all of this. I think you have to do what makes you feel normal, and it takes something different for all of us. I'm only 34 and I have nothing (they took ovaries, uterus, cervix...even my gallbladder--but only 'cause I had a stone the size of a golf ball! They did a clean sweep while they were in there.) So I truly am menopausal (sp?). I will look up the pellets online. I haven't begun my hormones...they've asked that I try to wait til 6 weeks post op to begin them, which will be this coming Thursday. I'm just going to try to go in as informed as possible so that I can ask as many questions as possible. Hopefully that'll help me get the best care possible. Thanks for giving me a little more "ammo" for my "arsenal." LOLOL I'm sure the Dr. will learn to dread my appointments!

I cannot believe it's 6 weeks on Wednesday! I will have my check-up on the 11th. WOW! I haven't been here to check in on you ladies since the 7th! I am SO sorry!!!

I have been doing pretty well with hot flashes and such. My incision healed well, but there is a small scar. I imagine in 3-6 months it will be very tiny though. I do NOT miss the periods and cramps. And I also had a bladder sling put it, and it's AMAZING to sleep a full 6-8 hours straight instead of 2-4 tops.

Additionally, I had my bilateral mastectomy on 8/22 and have been really sore. I faired pretty well, overall, and my pathology report came back cancer free and the lymph nodes are clean too . Hooray!

Keep taking care of yourselves ladies!! I am sorry some of you have been having problems. Hang in there. Lots of love!

Hi Sisters,

Tuesday I go for my 6 week check up. I'm still feeling sore when I lay down for a nap or to sleep. I lay on my side usually and my stomach area gets hard like a rock and just aches till I get up. I'm wondering if it's got anything to do with being a lot overweight. Anyone else experiancing this?

I was told the cancer didnt' spread past the wall of the uterus and I soon will be starting on radiation treatments, I was told it would be once a week for 3 weeks, 15 minutes per session. Any comments on what that will be like?

Angela, if you don't mind my asking...why the mastectomy? Did they suspect cancer or what? They couldn't do any testing on part of it to be sure it was (or in your case wasn't) cancer before doing the mastectomy? Just curious. I've never heard of a mastectomy without a positive dx of cancer. I'm glad you don't have cancer though. Thank God for that!

Bluebus, I, too am pretty overweight, but my incision doesn't bother me when I lay down (I'll be 6 weeks postop this Thursday)....and part of my incision is still open due to infection. You may want to have it checked to be sure there's no underlying cause. You'll be in remission after your radiation, right?

Today is another day....I know I'm better than yesterday....I'm just frustrated to not be well....when, oh when will I ever possess patience?? It shames to no end to complain now though when I know some of you are dealing with much scarier circumstances than I. I will pray for each of you with cancer scares.

New update since seen doctor its been busy!

Seen doctor on friday, he wanted to readmit me to the hospital for IV antibiotics and I suggested Home Care. So after 11 calls between me and doctors office we got it set up. He made me go to the hospital for a Cat Scan to make sure the hematoma was truely gone, and it is. Although they found that each side of my incision was seperated into two different pockets of infection.

On saturday, the doctor made me go to the ER due to I was not feeling well and he wanted to see me. He ended up reopening the left side pocket on the incision so it could drain like the right did on its own. This procedure was very painful, and is a pain in the butt to take care of.

Today, I feel much better think the antibiotic are working! Woohoo (oh' he has me on three different antibiotics, three times a day)!!!! Doctor called a little bit ago and I was telling him how I lost my IV today(my veins have been terrible) and the nurse suggested that if we continued IV antibiotic past tuesday that I would need a pic line. He states that most people dont need antibiotics past four days. Is this typical, to only use IV antibiotics for only four days? I would hate to start to get better to have another down fall!! This is the best I have felt in a LONG time!!

Anyway THANKS ladies for the words of encouragement! I am very thankful!

Jennifer

updates

Blue bus, there is a cancer area on this site so you might want to post here too.

It took me a couple of weeks to be able to lay on my side which is how I like to sleep. It was hard.

I spent today packing up my parents apt with help from two cousins because I am moving them into a retirement community next week.

I lost energy after a couple of hours. It upset me because my cousins are older than me and both nurses and one had to work tonight. I am feeling better now after being in bed with the TV on and my laptop in bed with me for a couple of hours. After five weeks I still need down time I guess.

I tried not to overdo it but I did take a pain pill. I might need to take a percoset later too.

I read how someone is saying they are happy about no more periods and ... boy I haven't even thoubght about that! I have been focused on my healing while being a single parent and an only child and talking care of my kids and my parents and trying to get back to work and the emotional issues of all my female innards gone ...

that I hadn't thought about how I had such awful irregular periods and that last one that last three weeks with such heavy bleeding I couldnt' leave the house and I was anemic which forced me to say I wanted the uterine ablation which then found the stage 1 cancer ...

woo hoo. no more more that. thanks hystersister. i hadn't even focused on the positive yet.

and my hot flashes are manageable but i might do estrogen for the next couple of years. worries me about the increase in breast cancer though. ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

okay... no ... focus on the good. no more periods. done.

Yes, just think, no more, oh darn, have to pack all that junk for the weekend and worry about spotting the car up!

I just passed that aisle in the grocery store and thought, no more trying to find the cheapest yet effective brand! Yippee.
