getting ready to be bald!!!!

Vanity has never played a large part in my life. But I know before my 2nd
chemo in two weeks, with Taxol, I will be completely bald. I saw a wonderful
wig maker last week, who is making me a short highlighted bob, like my
own. I have cute hats all ready to go, and the wig stylist will do away with my
hair next Saturday. But gosh, it is still sooo hard knowing what is to come.
Just looking to share my thoughts this morning with any sisters who have
been there, and done that! oxoxkarenann ovca III

Hugs ((((Karen))))))

Raises her hand as member of the "been there, done that" club.

You are sounding really good and postive about it all. That helps. Its hard, there is no doubt about that, its very hard.

I had my sister shave all my hair off after my first treatment when it was coming out alot, and I was afraid to comb it anymore. I think that helps.

That was mid October, and I just stopped wearing my wig a month ago. I finished chemo Dec. 22nd, and probably could have lost the wig sooner than I did, but I wanted to wait for a little length. I love my new hair, and it came in as curly as ever, much greyer though. But my buddy Miss Clairol took care of that I think its great you are having a wig specially made. That way you get to have input, and not have to settle for the ready made types. There are a lot of choices out there now for wigs for sure.

Hang in there Karen!! We are with ya here all the way!
Love and Hugs!!
M. xoxo

Oh, yeah! I remember those feelings well! I'm a member too!

You sound like you have a much better attitude than I did! I know even with the most positive attitude, especially at first, loosing your hair is tough. You know, you may have a bit longer than you think, I started loosing mine between the second and third rounds, although, I've heard before the second also.

It did get a bit easier as time went on but I'll tell ya, within just a few weeks of completing the Taxol, it was growing back really fast.

How cool you're having your wig made! I just bet its going to be beautiful! Make sure you get one of the mesh thingies to go underneath, it sure helps keep it on. I used one and used bob pins to hold it to the mesh. Worked wonderful, I even went dancing (including spinning) and it stayed put!

I lucked out after buying the first one retail price, was introduced to a hairdresser through work who ordered them at wholesale price for his chemo and alopecia patients. He got them at such a good price, I ordered several and played musical hair! It was actually kind of fun, my co-workers never knew what "look" I would show up with! Although the folks that didn't know the specifics looked at me a little strange trying to figure out how I did that!

Keep up that great attitude you've got! That is so important! We're all here for you any time you need, just holler!

Big {{hugs}}

getting ready to be bald!!!!

There was one sister whose hospital had a lending library of wigs. She took a different one out every week and tried out all the looks she'd never had the guts to try before.

Hugs to you Karen. I am not a member of the chemo club, but would just like to congratulate you on your positive attitude, While I was going through my radiation treatments I met a girl who had a brain tumour, she had lost all her hair and her family all put in and bought her a wig. She also had the best hats I have ever seen. So you keep up that great attitude ,together with that and us by your side these treatments will be over before you know it . Much love and many many hugs x x x

Wow, Karenann! You are really on top of things. All planned out and ready to go! I certainly admire your spirit. It's going to get you a long way during your treatments.

My very best wishes to you. I'm sure the wig will turn out great!
