MollyPolly,

Dulcolax is another stool softener. This is what a lot of hospitals on the west coast use. I had it but did not use it since the Milk of Mag took care of my issues. Hope this gives you another option!

To the SC ladies....welcome! It's nice to see you jumping into the conversation....and how wonderful that you live so near each other!

MollyPolly, another stool softener to look for is Colace. I bought the generic equivalent and it worked for me.

Kudos to all of you who are getting 15 and 30 min walks in. I am getting so sick of walking in circles in the house, but when I step outside the heat takes my breath away and I don't make it very far. I am still experiencing the light headedness too, especially when I am outside walking outside in the heat. I had my dd take me to a clothing store to buy more underwear (bras without underwires...the pressure hurt my uppermost incision) and looser fitting panties with the boy leg cut. Cant stand the elastic on my upper thighs! I have one pair of capris that I am wearing nonstop - they have only drawstrings on top and feel like heaven! I had bought some other shorts/capris before surgery, but found ANY elastic is very uncomfortable.

A huge adjustment has been sleeping on my back. I am a side/stomach sleeper, but it is very uncomfortable, a sloshy like feeling to sleep on my side. Still taking percocet at night to help with sleeping and achiness at night - that helps.

Oh, and another thing... I am still walking so s-l-o-w-l-y. I may have been hallucinating, but I think a turtle went wizzing by me on the sidewalk this morning!

to everyone!

Mary

Jazz56,
Thanks! Although my DH has been very supportive, it is still very nice to 'hear' from others who are going through the same thing.

Livinthedream:
Don't worry about walking slowly. Your body knows how fast you need to go. Just today I am finally feeling like I am picking up my feet more when I walk. I am feeling much less of the Swelly Belly today, so I feel like I am more upright when I walk.

Everything just takes longer now, but it will get better!

Hi MollyPolly.
I am taking Miralax, it's a stool softener recommended by my Dr. It's supposed to work with your body & not give you the gas pains. I've been getting those terrible gas pains as well. I started taking this yesterday & so far so good. The pains are getting less & less. God luck to you!

6 days post op for me

I almost hate to post this, but I am so shocked at what I am feeling only 6 days post op. I have NO pain, none, zero, zip nadda! Oh, I will have an occasional gas pain, but those pass quickly.

I had a slight infection start to form at the IV site in my left arm yesterday, Dr said Neosporin and hot packs, did that last night and it is all better or so it seems, today.

I can easily bend over and pick up small things, and get in and out of bed easily, I am going potty alot and the swelling seems to be bette today than yesterday. Weight is coming down too.

I actually have some appetite but find I cannot eat much when I do eat.No nausea though.

I can now see how easy it would be to think a day at the mall or an outing wouldn't hurt.... like so many have done and had set backs.... I have learned from them and plan to try my hardest to NOT hurt myself feeling this great!

Tomorrow is one week from surgery, hopefully I will feel even better! Good luck to everyone on the road to recovery.... and just because I am not in pain and feel great, I am still doing only computer work and TV entertainment, resting with my cat who is giving me sleeping all day lessons.

i don't know how much is too much
i am doing fine and up to walking on treadmill @ 4mph for 1 hour and 5 minutes straight. BUT I leave that as the highlight of my day. The rest of the day is doing relatively nothing.
the hardest part is stopping before doing anything and determining if i can do it -- lifting and stuff -- you don't know how bad i want to go back to the gym and resume lifting weights but i don't want to do anything that will set me back further than i already am now.
So I am going to be happy that I am well enough to be at the level i am with my walking.

I'm now 7 days post op! I never thought the day would come! LOL!
I'm still having gas pains, trouble sleeping and more pain in the morning than any other time of day. DH even gets me up in the middle of the night to take pain meds.
I have been out walking hoping that it will help with the gas pain, but now I think I'm going to try some of the stuff you wonderful ladies have recommended!

Does anyone else have a lot of pelvic floor pain? That's what my doctor calls it anyway......I had a LAVH so I've only got three small incisions on my stomach with no external stitches. I guess all of the stiches are inside.

You guys might laugh, but I haven't worn any undergarments yet since my surgery. I have only stayed in pj's that look almost like regular clothes (but they aren't!). I have only gone out for walks early in the a.m. or later on at night, and I wear an overcoat over top my pj's. How's that for a laugh?

I finally took off the steri strips that I've had over my incisions since the surgery. So far, so good. I am still waiting for when I can sleep on my stomach in my own bed. Until then, I've been using the living room recliner day and night. I've got a great cross-stitch going which keeps me busy, but I'm going to have to brave those elastic banded underpants soon!!

Am I a baby or what? And I had an LSH/BSO.... not even an abdominal incision like many of you! I did have extensive endo and adhesions and a goretex patch that had to be carefully taken off my bowel, and I'm gonna have to find out what else the dr. did when I eventually go for my post-op 8/15. Guess I'll have to be dressed by then lol.
