[quote=The Gardener][quote=marshmallowchri] All of you, Ladies who have been home-bound or home-ridden, I am just curious ... how old are your doctors? I am wondering if it is an old school type thing or if young doctors are still abiding by this.

marshmallowchri - I'm one of the house confined; however, I have been sitting on my deck everyday, reading and have gotten a great tan on my front side! Considering that I'm 43, I really don't consider my Dr old - he's 48.

But I did have a blood transfusion after my LSH and left the hospital with a hemoglobin level of 7 (very anemic). My Dr also knows if he doesn't tell me not to do something, I will do it!!!! He actually made me stop exercising, gardening, traveling out of state in March, when my hemoglobin started dropping. Thank goodness my boss understands, because I missed two out of state meetings - one in May and one in June!
I'm home ridden to an extent. I can't drive, so I can't go too far.

I don't know how old my surgeon is, but I would guess that he's in his late 50's. All I know is that I love him and he's wonderful, with his Chilean accent, LOL.

My surgery was 8/1 but I am just now posting. The surgery was a little complicated because I had alot of adhesions and scar tissue. Doctor was only able to remove 1 ovary because could not find the other one. Just found out from a report mailed to me that I will need another surgery, probably to remove the other ovary. My post op appointment is 8/15.

Though my doctor prescribed HRT Vivelle dot, I am planning on using natural supplements for menopause symptoms. It took me 4 days to really get up and about. I am not driving yet but going out, and by end of day am really tired with back pain and discomfort, take a pain pill for this. I will be back to work on 8/16. I was not given any restrictions other than no shower for 48 hours and no heavy lifting for 1 week. I will start to drive on Monday.

WOW! You had a TAH and you're going back to work after only 2 weeks? My doctor said that I wouldn't be able to work (I'm on disability though because of the cancer) for 6-8 weeks. Are you sure you'll be ready to go back that soon?

I had a TAH on Aug 3rd and No work until after my first check up, in 3 weeks, the post op instructions say NO driving for 2 weeks and no working for 4 to 6 weeks. I am a realtor so my work is sometimes hard, sometimes, easy no real lifting however. I plan to stay out for 3 weeks, that means no open houses no running clients around house shopping, only computer stuff. That is awfullly early to return to work! Hope all goes well.

MollyPolly and other BSO sisters,
I had TAH/BSO, but for three months before surgery had to have Lupron injection to stop my periods for surgery. I had terrible hotflashes but in the hospital, my doctor gave me a hormone patch at the end of surgery....No more hot flashes!! I am using the patches for recovery and figure I will reserach alternatives after I feel better.
Are you still suffering from hotflashes? Will I ever be able to wear a sweater again? Fall clothes are so pretty, but some times just looking at the pictures of warm clothes makes me break into a sweat!

Evening ladies!

Hmm, I am not sure how old my surgeon is...maybe in her early forties? I've never asked her. But she has a ton of energy, and doesn't seem very old at all, but I know she has a lot of experience at my hospital. Nearly every woman I know has had good things to say about her (my town is small enough that many of us have the same obgyn).

I was super bad today and overdid it. My hubby and I drove my mom to the airport, about 45 minutes, but along the way we stopped for lunch with my in-laws so the parents could all visit. Then, I got home feeling so good that I did a little painting project outside... I swear it was just a railing, no more than an hour, but now my back hurts and I am tired.

So...word to the wise, they really mean it when they say take it easy. Overdoing it is easy and hard to resist when you get stir crazy! I will be resting a lot more tomorrow.

My incision has been getting more itchy too. I think the initial swelling goes down and then you start to feel all the other weird things pulling and lumpy inside or something.

On the PLUS side, don't forget to watch the meteor shower Sunday night!!! After 9 or 10 pm is best...but the new moon is supposed to make the Perseid shower especially good this year. I have a reclining camp chair that will be perfect on the back patio. For once, just lying there will be exactly what I want to do!!!

Ok, am I going crazy? Yesterday, my DH took both of my DS's to the river and they spent the night, so my DD and I were home alone. She and I watched a chick flick ('Catch and Release' - really cute) and had a good time. However, when I went to bed, I felt so alone. I literally cried myself to sleep last night. This morning I'm feeling a little better, but still kind of down.

I have been so weepy since my surgery too! I think it's just a combination of things, and our hormones getting the best of us. Maybe you just needed a GOOD cry! Nothing is more cleansing that a nice, good cry.

Me too, very teary. Seems just about anything can set me off. I asked my PA the other day about hormones and all. I had already gone through menopause before the surgery and she said I will probably be effected by the loss of my ovaries, but maybe not as bad as those who had not gone through menopause as of yet. Who knows. I just know I am very teary too.
