Molly - I am so sorry. Hopefully this is just a small setback and the healing will be fast. I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Soonershep, about that Arnica gel, I just apply it like body lotion, this is a gel, thought maybe it would be more cooling than cream which is also available, I also took the tiny homeopathic pills from day one home, three times a day, they are gone now, and I am not going to go out to get any more for a while, if I do.
I apply mine to my entire tummy area up to the steri strips that are still hangin in there, so I do from under my breasts to the sides to the steri strips at least twice a day.
I was reading last ngiht you can use Pineapple yep eat as much as you can and you can buy Bromelain caps (enzymes) 400 to 500 mg on an empty stomach to help, and take 2 parts Tumeric to 1 part SALT and add some ginger powder and make a poltice, spread over the swelling, not into an open incision, however but the tissues around the swollen area, that is supposed to reduce the swelling, you can just let it be there for an time. If you have swelling someplace else, like ankles drink dandelion leaf tea it is a powerful as lasix, a strong diuretic. Also corn silks yep off the cops the hair on top make a great diuretic too for fluid in other places and may help, but the Tumeric Salt and Bromelain and Pineapple are for post surgical swelling, I guess the enzyme in pineapple helps to break down the swelling really good, plus it is good for you and yummy! I am sending DH to costco today for pineapple for myself.
But if you just want to use the Arnica, it is at the healthfood store or section of grocery, if your stores are like they are in seattle area, I bought a box that had the gel and a packet of those tiny homeopathic pills, good luck

Hiya girls,

Been reading all of your posts, it is amazing how differently we all react to surgery and the recovery. My incision never itched once, maybe because it is hiding under a small shelf, lol. I am getting a number of hot flashes and sweats during the day, which I hate. I still get the swell belly, but I understand that could go on for a while. I bought a new pair of capri length jeans around noon the other day and they didn't fit by 6pm due to swelling. Today was my last day of freedom, I go back to work on Monday. I'm not bothered by stairs, my Dr. said as long as I don't take them 2 at a time, I'll be ok. That's good because I have 32 stairs up to my office.
I pray all of you do well with your recovery and feel better every day.

Will be 4 weeks post op on Monday. Feeling really good except for some pain when I sneeze (have allergies & live in the country) and swelly belly, which is driving me crazy!! After my surgery my tummy was flatter than it has been in years (had a large fibroid tumor). I was so excited, then two weeks post op the swelling began...no more flat tummy. It doesn't hurt but is uncomfortable. I am glad to read the tip about the arnica gel. My neighbor owns a health food store so I'll go get some from her, hopefully that will help some.

I am not sure if you also read the poltice of two parts tumeric to one part salt, make a paste and spred over the swelling, you can also add some powdered ginger to that. I would avoid the incision if it is at all open, plaster that on, maybe cover it with a piece of old cotton tee shirt and put your feet up and rest for an hour or longer.
Dandelion leaf tea is good too if you have other fluid retention in your ankles or places. And the enzyme Bromalain is supposed to help too, it is sold as a digestive enzyme and found in raw pineapple.
I wore a surgical garment almost twenty four hours a day until two days ago, I have only about a half maybe three quarters of an inch of swell just below my belly button and just a bit above my scar now.

Thanks Ktys!, I just happened to have bought some tumeric before my surgery!! I'll give it a try. I would love to try the fresh pineapple too, but don't know if I can find it around these "parts"
