Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I usually shave down there, everywhere just leaving a bit at the top ya know? Anyway I was wondering if for some reason I should not do this prior to my LAVH, like just in case I nicked or cut or something? Ridiculous question I know but I wouldn't want the doc to cancel the surgery because of an accidental source of infection or something!

I read that sometimes the nurses do a shave and not to do it yourself at home, but I was assuming that was for an abdominal hysterectomy. Just another thing to torture myself with...*sigh*

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

Don't shave or anything because you may get a cut and increase the chance of infection (according to what my dr said). I had a total lap hyst so didn't need to shave....where do they cut on a abd hyst? Guess they'll shave as low as they need to go.

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

My doc didn't say anything one way or the other about it, but I didn't think to ask. It's just a normal part of my grooming really or I would have.

I don't know where they cut for an abdominal hysterectomy, I believe a bikini cut similar to a c-section. But I am having a lap/vaginal hysterectomy so I'm wondering if it is still OK to do it, especially if it is going to be done anyhow.

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I had a total lap as well, and they shaved about an inch from the top. If they need to do it, they'll take care of it. So relax and cross that worry off your list!

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I had a LAVH with two incisions, one just in/below navel and one at hairline. They shaved me about an inch below incision. I would not shave and risk a nick. They shaved me after I was out. I didn't realize until I took a shower the next day.

This is a little off topic, but my son had to have knee surgery. He was prepped, given valium before they started I.V. when the nurse noticed he had an ingrown toenail that was a little puffy. They cancelled his surgery until he completed a round of antibiotics and had the toenail taken care of. So they do take the risk of infection very seriously.

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I am having the Da Vinci in less than a week and according to my directions it specifically says not to shave the night before due to increased chance for infection. I am thinking to do the shaving a day or two before as I can not stand not to shave either! But this is my advice.... don't shave the night before or the day of! But I am not a doctor!

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I was told specifically NOT to shave because it can cause an infection, so I didn't, but they shaved me in the OR - especially since my staples are all the way down to my vaginal opening.

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I shaved yesterday as I really don't like not to be groomed, so I will leave it as it then for tomorrow. I didn't nick or cut anything except my shin! Go figure.

Embarassing question...to shave or not to shave?

I had TVH, I trimmed up down there the day before surgery. It never entered my mind that they may shave me until after surgery I read it here....they did not shave me at all...but as everyone else has said, they will take care of it if they need to.
Best wishes to you!
