Dear Ladies,
Imagine the women of the past who had hysterectomies and no one to talk to. I remember my mom referring to the change of life. Nobody talked about it then like now with our "hystersister" website support and all.

Sounds like we all have the same concern. We're feeling pretty good and have to remember to take it easy!

I really don't get bored much because I spend the time studying, scrap booking etc; I still get tired too and then I need a nap. Went shopping today and was EXHAUSTED when I left there!

Hot flashes. Hmm...nobody talks about that much. I'm taking Premarin, which I really held off taking, but then decided it's probably best. I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot. Jack0888...I live in Okinawa, Japan! (you asked) - It's hot here even without the lack of hormones! It's rainy today and cooling down which is fabulous! Okinawa is a sub tropical island and it is lovely!

I'm from Ohio originally...one of you are from Ohio, I don't recall who. I'm from Canton, Ohio originally. (left there 20 years ago...still have family there)...talk to you all soon. Take care of yourselves!

Chevelle - it really is interesting keeping in touch with all you globally. Okinawa is part of the Ryuku Islands isn't it? You're a long way from home! Is your DH with the Marine Corps? I just got a get well card from a friend who now lives in Tokyo and she was bemoaning the fact that it's so hard to play golf there (we used to play together ever weekend without fail.) You're lucky to live in a place with such a beautiful culture and scenery.

I'm wondering about the hot flashes - I kept my ovaries but had all else removed along with the troublesome fibroid and was told that I shouldn't feel the effects of peri-menopause for several years yet. Has anyone felt differently? Did your hysterectomy have any effect on your menopause if you kept your ovaries? Just curious!

Hello ladies,

I have to tell you I had my first experience with in home health care yesterday. No one responded to if they had ever had to use it before so I assume you all haven't. Well let me tell you it was very interesting. The RN yesterday was very nice she came twice once in the morning and then again in the evening. I am having to pack these intections twice a day. A different RN came this morning and she will come all weekend. I did learn another possible reason for this is the muscle and the tissue didn't adhere together causing a perfect internal infecton sight. I really think nobody knows for sure, but there is much spectulation going on!!!! The bad news is the bottom sight is so deep I am being told at least a month for it to fill in and heal and no going back to work until it is completely healed. The top one maybe a couple weeks. I am very depressed right now and feeling sorry for myself. The whole why me syndrome or surely if I would have done something different it wouldn't have happened. The nurses and Dr. keep telling me it just happens sometimes and is rare, but it's nothing I could have prevented. Sorry for the downer post, but well....!
lil'ol'me-how is the catheterizing coming? Haven't heard for awhile and I have been thinking about you. And Jane you are a crazy gal and I am glad all has turned out well. Shopping online...hmmm lets see Walmart.com, Countrydoor.com there are a million. Google online shopping and see what you get. I found a wonderful art site one day, but now I can't remember what is was. Just think of any store Penneys, Sears, Kohls whatever and google the store name or product name it will eventually lead you there. Happy shopping!!!
I so much enjoy reading everyones stories and experiences. I think this site is a Godsend. Bless you all and happy healing.

Update

Nice to hear there are some ladies originally from Ohio. I am from Brunswick, Ohio about 20 miles south of Cleveland. Now I live in Southern Illinois and it has been so hot and dry here that it is almost unbearable.

I had problems with the Premarin .625 when I started taking it. My breasts were really sore and it didn't seem to be helping the hot flashes. My DH suggested eliminating the extra caffeine that I had been drinking. I normally drink decaf coffee but have one cup of regular tea every morning. During my recovery, I was having many cups of regular tea. Once I went back to my normal routine, the breast pain went away. (I eliminated caffeine years ago due to lumps in my breast during a mammogram - I must have fibrocystic breasts).

My TLH/BSO was on 8/7 and I still don't have my energy back. Some days I even have to take a nap due to exhaustion. I am lucky that I am an "online" college student so I can work on the assignments when I have the most energy. I thought maybe my age is a factor in the recovery process. I will be 53 in October.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I am taking this slowly and only doing what I feel I can do. The 10 pound lifting rule is humorous since a gallon of milk weighs 8 pounds.

MY DH will be glad when I am back to normal. No heavy cleaning has been done since prior to my surgery.

God bless!

Noreen

what do you think

Had LAVH kept nothing---I was thinking of going to have a pedi, and manicure this afternoon but the dr okay me to start drivng short dinstances on this coming Wed. It appears we all have similar restrictions from our dr but has anyone driven before the ok date. The end of the day is my worse, after doing light housekeeping and "my thing" by the time my DH gets home I am wiped and need to get in bed with my favorite pillow on my adomen and not move. I am 57, post menapause, so I am not as young as some of your are. Any feeling the later part of the day as challenging.
Also I am , my work called to see if I could attend half of an all day meeting (I'll only be sitting and thinking, I do have to drive 45 min to get there,) I am afraid they will think I am fine and expect to see me back before my dr. recommednded 6 wks. Dr is adement about the time. I don't want people thinking I am milking this, but I tell you usually nothing nothing gets me physically down I am a class A pusher, but this one got to me. Help, does anyone feel this way.

Thanks for listening, maybe that is all I need today, feeling a little sorry for myself. boo hoo

Just because we look "good" is no reason to compromise your health. I start out ok in the AM and just seem to get more and more tired as the day progresses. I would not attend any meetings or go back to work until after the 6 week checkup! I didn't drive before I was authorized and now just drive around town (not a 45 minute trip). My doctor approved the driving at my 1 1/2 week checkup (but limited driving).

I think that Jack088 has shown us that we have to take care of ourselves. We know our restrictions and need to follow them "to the letter" until everything is healed!

Hi Moushiel -

I'm 62 next month, so like you, older than some of our hystersisters! I do think age affects how tired we get, however fit we like to think we are. On the plus side, no small children to care for, and speaking for myself, I guess my ovaries are already enjoying retirement, so less worry than our younger colleagues have about possible effects of losing them. All the worries about postmenopausal weight, sex and all the rest have already been either proved false or accepted!

Iguess the other advantage to being older may be that we work to a different timescale, and are more philosophical about taking time off. Before you (younger ones) think 'ah well, she's obviously got nothing better to do...middle-aged, retired, past being driven or active....' nothing could be further from the truth. I'm an Anglican priest (Episcopalian, in US terms, but here it's different because the C of E is the state church, so we're responsible for everyone who doesn't claim allegiance anywhere else!) with 5 villages to care for, and have to find my own work cover in order to take time off. I also have a disabled husband, which is why I put off surgery for far too long. And I have a regular gym-and-pilates habit, and don't want to turn into a blob by sitting around feeding my face for too long. I'm eating carefully!

I'm not a good parient, and I'm not finding the enforced rest easy - as my DH says, my Inner Control Freak is really suffering! But having got this far, and made all those complicated arrangements myself, when my Dr says '6 wks', I'm jolly well going to take 6 wks (and have planned a 3 wk vacation at the end of it, effectively giving me 9!) - and if that's 'milking it', so be it!

The Quakers have a word for it: 'don't just do something: sit there!'

Love to all.....

Shopping

Jane, I know it sounds like I have been busy, but not really. I do stuff until I feel tired and then I sit in the recliner or lay down. Now that I am only on the Ibuprophen, I can feel my insides moving around - almost like they are going to fall out. I had to go to a funiral today and I thought it would never end. Wood pews, the heat, insence burning, crammed church.........I am glad to be home and resting.

Now to the shopping! I would like to tell you that I have been doing fantastic shopping, but it is more shopping for a purpose! Water filters for the refridgirator, scholastic books for my daughter (they now do that on line direct with the company and deliver to her teacher), and some business cards for an upcoming trip to Minniappolis. I did do some early Christmas shopping at Lakeside Collection and I am always browsing ebay a and Craigslist. I haven't been to Target and Walmart since the surgery, so I am peeking on there too.
