I had my first outing today. I had to go to my GP Dr to get meds of an ear infection. The pain and swelling have actually been worse from that then the TAH! My sister is visiting and taking care of me so we ran some errends and took my ds to the park for a bit. Now I am home resting and thinking about taking a nap. I feel pretty good, but I am taking the Vicodin as needed. My incision is doing well. Trying to keep dry with all the sweating going on. Itchy at times. We will all make it!

Hi everyone. This is my first post, after VH 6Aug, home on 9th. So grateful for this w/site, which has been really helpful before and after - hope I may be able to pass on some encouragement. All going fine, except yesterday I overdid stuff spending time with a new secretary (I work from home - dangerous!) and ended up with slight fever and feeling really ill. Early bed, slept 10 hours and stayed there till lunch - better now, and interested to learn that it might also have been because yesterday was first day w/o painkillers. Only real problem increase in frequency (but decrease in amount) of stress incontinence when I go for my walks. Was wishing I'd asked surgeon to do TVT as same time - but a little better today. Dare I hope it's common, might clear up on its own? Reassurance to all you dreading first BM: eat enough prunes/liquorice/fibre and wait for it to happen by itself - don't try and rush it - and it'll be fine.

Love to all!

Dear Crrector,

I also opted not to have the TVT when I had my laparascopic BSO on 8/7. I have some "odd" things going on with the stress incontinence. I think that so many things are trying to heal internally that it will work itself out. I figure my body needs at least 6 months to regenerate.

My DD advised me to have a specialist do the TVT if I need it at a later date. She wasn't happy with the statistics of problems that can happen when your normal OB/GYN does the work. Specialists have a much greater success rate and since DD works in medical malpractice, I followed her advice.

God bless!

11 days post op

Hi Everyone

Hope you're all feeling much better today.

I had my LAVH on 7th Aug and have been really good about resting up and doing everything really slowly. So far, so good. Was really happy yesterday as I managed to walk across the road and had a bit of pampering (mani & pedi) and felt fine sitting there for 1 1/2 hours. In the evening when DH came home I felt well enough for another outing so we walked (about 10 mins) over to my favourite pub and we had a couple of drinks and a light dinner before walking home (via the supermarket - I've developed a craving for All Bran and Muesli - really helps the BM!) and when we got home I still felt ok. Am walking so slowly I must look like an old woman but better safe and slow than speeding it up and regretting it later on!

Was really tired afterwards and slept for 10 hours! Just woke up and still no bleeding (it's been 3 days now) so fingers crossed that things continue positively as I'm back to work next week.

Hope you all have a good day today and recover well!

(TAH, kept an ovary, fibroids. Australian date 13th)

G'day Jacko and all.

Re the wine... yay for the private Catholic Hospital where with the evening meal there is a choice of airline sized white or red, a beer or light beer.
Can't think why they didn't allow it the night before, gee, I had after all been eating that day lol. (points for trying though)

Am really taking it easy today as went to the supermarket (could park right outside it and was only about 40 steps in all to the registers to pick up some more granny knikkers after discharge before the trip home, I hadn't done the morning walk so I figured that would be ok), then the trip home (2hrs) and a big outch getting INTO the car, getting out is FAR easier leaves me pretty sore today.
Have been mainly in bed reading, on the puter and bored outa my tree.
I think we humans can be funny creatures, I will put off housework when I CAN do it, but will see stuff I really want to do when I CAN'T do it.

I did know this and I nested madly the last few days before going to the castle but I have to Not do them, gees. (there is a cobweb in that corner)

I noticed that some of us lurked, soaking up all the advice we could pre op (did others look avidly through the previous group for hints and tips and got and acted on them?)
If there are future princesses doing that for our group what are your best hints and tips for a more comfortable hospital stay and or recouperation at home?

Mine is...If you will be alone for most of your Castle stay, a small back pack kinda thing with all fiddly things in it, eg bandaids, lip balm, book, glasses, emery board, comb mirror, moisturiser that will do both face and hands etc, everything just all together and placed within easy reaching with it plopped on the second drawer of bedside table which has been opened a bit. Am doing that at home too in bedroom as hubby is a farmer, works 7 days and pops in every couple of hours to see how I am.

I will force myself to do a walk this afternoon even though I really dont want to, know it has to be done though.

Hugs to everyone

Di-dee1 and everyone - I had to smile when you mentioned picking up the Granny Knickers today! The day after my op I realised that I really couldn't wear my usual bikini panties as I found lying on my side was rather uncomfortable and needed some support. So I sent DH out to find me support panties (his trip to the shops for this was quite hilarious! I also decided he may as well get me some pads and vaginal wipes while he was at it and I received a panic phone call from him when he was so confused at the pads section in the supermarket due to the huge variety to choose from! I guess it's a bit much to expect a man to appreciate the finer points of 'wing' vs 'non-wing', 'super', 'regular', 'light days' etc!) Anyway, he returned with 3 pairs of perfect support panties (SO BIG!!) and they have been a godsend. I think they helped with the swelly belly too and was able to lie on either side with no discomfort. They are so comfortable that I wonder when I'll be game to going back to little knickers?!!

A plus point for me about sending DH out to buy all this feminine stuff is that my girlfriends now think he's the perfect husband but a minus point for DH is that their husbands now think he's a major metrosexual and keep giving him a hard time for knowing the finer points about feminine hygiene!

Take it easy and stay away from that housework!

Hi there all...just here to say hey...glad that some of you are doing well and recovering nicely and to the others like me that are having a bumpy recovery, hang in there.

I'm still cathing myself, the meds for my bladder, while slightly helpful, aren't working as well as I think they should. Having trouble with BM and excrutiating bowel pains (worse than labor). Ran a fever last night, slight fever this a.m.

Hi Everyone:

I just wanted to say how much all of your posts helped me get thru this. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on Friday, Aug. 10. Didn't seem very eventful. Except I was having problems with my blood pressure being really low and very low oxygen counts. Everything went well Friday night and sat. morning I was up and trying to walk around. Sat. night I took a turn for the worse and they ended up putting me on oxygen and was very sick to my stomach. Which is not fun after adominal surgery. The gas pains on top of it were horrible. I ended up being in the hospital until Wed. August. 15. But I glad I'm home and it is over with. The gas has been really bad, much worse than any of the c-sections that I have had and I thank god for all of you who told me to get the gas-x, and all the fiber stuff because it really has helped. I also brought all the lip balm and everything else all of you had suggested to the hospital and it was great. I doing better now even took a full shower today (I was pertified of getting my incision wet) and have been trying to wean myself off the percocets but I do need them every once in awhile. I received my belly band today and I can't wait to start using it.

Thanks sisters for all your help and encouraging words. Even though we may not always post or even know each other your advice has been tremendous. Speedy recovery to all.
