thanks for replying to me

i am brand new to the site and i wasn't sure how to post things and reply. i hope you get my reply now. i don't have much trouble sleeping, but i'm still getting a pretty good amount of pain. my dr gave me percocet 325 mg . i can take one or two every 4 hours. i have only been taking one each time because i think they make me a little loopy. sometimes i alternate with motrin when the percocet wears off. right now i just took a shower and my pain is coming on strong. i might have to have a perc. before bed. i have had a few crying jags since coming home from the hospital, so i know what you mean about feeling down. same thing with me, i try to enjoy the quiet time, but 3 more weeks of it and i think i will be crazy !!! lets keep counting the days till we feel better. tomorrow is day 8.

I'm 5 days post-op & doing well!! I haven't had any ibuprofen since first thing this morning. I went to Tae Kwon Do class with my family & sat & watched. Boy, that was hard!! It took everything I had not to join in! Went out to lunch after class which I was wore out when we got home. I made sure to take a nap.

Question: I keep getting little twitches in my abdominal incision. Has anyone else experienced this?? It feels kinda weird like there's an alien under my skin.

I'll post more tomorrow.
G'night sisters

Today is 1 week post op! Yeah! This morning started off weepy. I cried most of the morning, sobbing for some of it. I just felt old and fat. I'm sure it's some hormone issues, too. Everybody is back to their routine and I'm alone alot the last two days. I guess I miss all the visitors and meals from last week. I took a nap this afternoon. Then when everyone came home I perked up. My little pains are getting less and less. Although, I watched a very funny show tonight and laughed too much, I was sure I busted a stitch or two. I really enjoyed the post about "Ask me about my BM's". Hey HysterSisters, if you're listening maybe you could make and sell those bumper stickers! I'm seeing my Internist tomorrow. Funny, I'm seeing him before my Gyno appt. Anyway, he wanted to see how I was doing a week after my surgery because I have anxiety and depression issues and wanted to make sure I was doing alright and we didn't need to adjust any meds. I hope everyone is doing well and keep posting!!

I had my surgery on Monday and came home Tuesday. Everything went better than expected. Dr. scheduled a three hour surgery but it only took an hour and a half. No incisions Feeling pretty good. The pain is not more than before the surgery. Thanks to all the sisters who have posted and responded to me. this site was the best and only way I could have gone through this.

Yay !!

Hi ladies, well I had my TLAVH/BSO on the 13th August and so far so good. I left the hospital the day after the surgery and am recovering happily at home. I have not been on any painkillers apart from the first few days and all in all the whole experience has been much better than I had anticipated. I had been diagnosed with Stage 1 Cancer of the Endometrium so HRT may not be a possibility for me so I am hoping that hormonal upheaval won't be too bad...but so far so good. To have the surgeon report that he had successfully removed all the cancer cells and that no further treatment was required and that he had been able to operate laparoscopically was music to my ears. I wish all my fellow Hyster-Sisters well in their recovery and again....it really wasn't too bad (I am about 100lbs overweight by the way) so to my overweight sisters take heart )

Well, I'm a bit disappointed in myself after reading how well so many of you have done, but I'm happy for all of you! Keep up the good work!

I had a TAH/BSO Aug. 13, with removal of lymph nodes and omentum, due to a 10-cm ovarian mass which the while-u-wait pathology indicated was malignant as expected. (The hope is that it's one of the uncommon, nonepithelial types of ovarian tumor, since it has been cranking out both male and female hormones. The final pathology report will indicate this.) The complication for which I was unprepared was that the mass was stuck to the bladder, requiring a bladder repair after it was excised. So lucky me went home with a Foley catheter, which I expect to be removed tomorrow when I visit the surgeon. I may also get the final pathology feedback and treatment recommendation.

After surgery on a Monday I was discharged Friday and I thought that was too soon. They pounced on me when I had a BM that was more like a bowel prep after three or four Dulcolax suppositories. Meanwhile, being eager to get rid of me as is the way of hospitals nowadays, they had been encouraging me to eat despite the fact that I hadn't passed gas and nobody had even listened to my bowel sounds until maybe day 4. I tried eating small amounts of what few hospital foods I could even consider putting in my mouth, which caused me to feel even more horribly distended and lay around trying not to puke, with reflux constantly threatening. This syndrome improved markedly within 24 hours of going cold turkey on the Percocet, which should be a prime suspect for anyone having trouble with postop nausea/regurgitation/vomiting.

Here on postop day 9, I am still gassy and bloated and have yet to pass another BM (the first, "artificial" one was on day 4), but at least I've been eating better and am no longer suffering from the reflux. I still get a bit nauseated here and there. I have irritable bowel syndrome, which I'm sure has contributed to my difficulties in this area. Yes, I'm taking the Colace and things like flaxseed, fiber supplement and finally today a few prunes, which just seemed to produce worse gas pains. I expect I'll have to resort to some sort of laxative after tomorrow's appointment.

I haven't taken anything for pain since Friday, although I could use some relief at times, because all OTC pain relievers have issues for me. I will take that up with the surgeon tomorrow. I cannot WAIT to get rid of the Foley catheter, a painful nuisance. Of course I'm scared I won't be able to pee and will have to go to the ER...

On the positive side, I feel pretty strong and I can bend, stretch, and get around much better than I expected based on what I read here. Still, I am glad to be staying with someone--I think I'd be overwhelmed on my own.

Oops! I typed in TLH instead of TAH (total abdominal hyst.) which is what I had, I stand corrected

Hoping for your relief

Poor Plutonian! I totally sympathize with you ! They did that to me at the hospital...suppository and a couple of pencil sized...umm...what should I call them...well, you know what I mean. That was Saturday and I had been eating solids since Friday morning. ( The hospital I was at has GREAT food, oddly enough). So...I go through the whole weekend eating up, putting more and more in me, with nothing except pee coming out. I felt like an helium balloon and it hurt to touch my tummy, which was as hard as a rock. Finally, Sunday night, on my own, I took two laxative pills. Well, nothing happened and by 630 Monday morning, I called my doc, woke her up, asked if I could give myself an enema. She groggily said yes. So, I got up, took a shower (??? before enema???) and the thought of the enema must have scared the crap out of me because I had a successful BM! (refer to old post from me about making "ask me about my BM" bumper stickers). I continued to have them throughout the day and after the last one, sighed and thought to myself, 'that was better than an orgasm!' (Hey, it is going to be a while so enjoy the thought!) My tummy is SO much better! To make a short story long...call the doc, do not wait to see them. Ask about the laxative (I did not ask, how much could it hurt me?) and scare yourself into a BM by thinking of giving yourself an enema.

On a serious note, I hope you are passing a bit of gas or air and do not end up with a blockage. I do think it just takes a while for our system to wake up. Do call your doctor today...let us know how everything 'comes out'...
