im reading through surgical orders and have a few questions?

Activity Ad-lib: you can participate in any physical activities you would like. NPO after 24: no eating/drinking after 12 AM. I gotta tell you: NO instructions should be that unclear!!!! I would mention that to my doctor.

Ask that the preop instructions be explained in PLAIN ENGLISH, not medical or military talk.

(take a tape recorder and record what they say .. sometimes we don't hear things as well as we should when we're under stress)

Excellent idea

I love the idea of the tape recorder and took it to my pre-op appointments and am planning on taking it to the hospital. I asked a nurse friend of mine about it and she thought it was brilliant. She said any good nurse would be happy to dictate your med, activity, release, etc instructions for you.

LL,

You might consider getting permission to use the tape recorder during surgery to listen to relaxing music.

That's what I plan to do if they will let me. This is one of the suggestions from Peggy Huddleston's book, "prepare for surgery, heal faster". Unfortunately, rock n roll isn't relaxing.. lol.. guess I will have to dig out my George Winston & similar artists.
