I thought I read somewhere on this site that wearing a 'panty girdle' is ok.....does anyone know if this is true.....

I usually wear one that has back support for my back and I wondered if it would help with the feeling that my tummy needs support.........but I don't want to wear it if wearing something tighter on the stomach would harm anything...

Anyone have any thoughts on this?!?!?

My TAH on 8/21 went well. I was home from the hospital in 2 days and dr allowed "any activity you want to do, walking, driving, shopping, cooking, etc" After a week I was adding many of my normal activities back plus 2 short naps - after lunch and after dinner. For exercise I did walking and hand-weights but no abs.

Two weeks after surgery I had my follow up doctor's appt. At that point I was released back to normal life. I returned to work 4 hrs per day.

Now at 3 weeks after surgery, I am back at work and back at the gym, back at everything, same as before surgery.
I'm thinking about getting a gym membership to use resistance equipment (lightly of course). What types of exercises do you do?

First post since coming home

My tah was on 8-23 (thursday). I came home the following monday with the runs. they gave me a suppository in the hospital - I think that's what caused it, because I mostly ate light and clear liquids. the food at the castle was not edible so I stuck to jello and broth.

What they found was lots of endo. So much so that even with a verticle cut the dr couldn't lift out my uterus. It had to be cut out. They took everything out, so now I'm on the patch, which is going ok. all the pathology results came back clear. there were lots of fibroids and adnoidmiosis in the uterus.

I'm still very tired but am managing the pain. dr said all my insides would be very raw for quite sometime because of all the adhesions. It was the worse case of endo she had seen. I hope to be off of the percoset in a few more days. I'm taking motrin to help with the swelling and rawness. It starting to help.

I'm just resting, watching movies and taking care of myself. Everyone else in the family can fend for themselves.

Today I changed my primary care physician. The next time I say that something is wrong with me, I expect a *^$#^ to listen! Sorry, but I have talked about my excessive bleeding for years and it was blown off. I'll be darned if I'm going to pay premiums and co-pays only to have to turn around and diagnose myself.

Aside from that, I ran a few errands, took a nap, currently giving myself a facial and will stuff my face with dinner after bleaching my eyebrows. (I'm still adamant about making myself feel girly-girlish through all this).

Ladies, let's take care of ourselves.

Ule.....u go to my doctor???!!!!........My gp when I went in April with 9 weeks of heavy hemorraging sent me to a surgeon to have a d&c.....I questioned the surgeon about hyst knowing that the ultrasound showed fibroids, cysts and a large ovary and enlarged uterus.....no go. did the d&c......then 8 weeks later, here we go again......called the gp and couldn't get in to see him...soooo decided to take it upon myself and find an obgyn (didn't understand the surgeon instead of an obgyn)......obgyn got me in the next day and when I described what was going on and he looked at the ultrasound results he immediately said a hyst...

Moral of the story is......we HAVE to take it upon ourselves.....I'm beating myself up as I wish I would have pushed harder in May and found an obgyn but I was sooo sick and sooo weak that I didn't have the energy to fight it.

Chaos2me.....I was 'tossed' out of the castle in 24 hours....surg on the 24th in the am....at noon on Sat, the dr asked if I was ready to leave......I had been on liquids only, bed rest (no getting up), catheter...in less than three hours, they removed the catheter, gave me food and told me to get up and use the restroom...then sent me home.....I would have LOVED to stay one more night....that first night at home was ROUGH and uncomfortable....thank heavens for vicoden....

First post since surgery

I just wanna say first off, Hystersisters, you're the best! Just so the rest of you, my dear "health" sisters know a lil' about me, I was diagnosed with fibroids earlier in August of this year and was devasted. My world came to a halt. I cried like crazy and wanted no advice from anyone. At that time that is. (Hey, this all sounded new to me and made me feel like I was sickly but after seeing all it took to bring me to this point and to become healthier afterwards, I saw a blessing in all of it.) I had been having 10 day periods with heavy flow and didn't know why. Here at age 40 this was beginning to happen. Well, somehow back in July I had a urinary tract infection and that led to a kidney infection which led me to my primary doctor. He did his thing including blood tests which later showed just how anemic I had become. From this analysis, blood transfusion was a remedy because I was several pints below the norm and so, now I spend a couple of days in the hospital which led to many tests including an ultrasound as one of the ways of finding the problem of my anemia and providing a solution. Well, later the ultrasound showed these monsters, FIBROIDS, one of which was way up my uterine lining and very big. And that is when I learned all about why I'd been feeling weak, no energy, out of breath so quickly and always sleepy. I would have taken the news quite hard if it hadn't been for the handsome new gynecologist referred by the primary doctor! (smile) I say that in joking now because a few weeks ago I wasn't laughing; I was praying and wondering why now and why me. But just as a piece of good advice, I feel, never say "why you". Why not you? This happened for a reason and hopefully I would reap good benefits behind the mental and physicological avenues I took myself. I'd felt my whole life was taking a drastic turn. I'd never had surgery in my life, in good health and now this; being told by a physician that SURGERY.... it may be an alternative in better health, with no more painful menstrual cycles or less energetic days ahead. Then one night my dear, sweet husband, hugged me, held me and told me very encouraging things but it was not enough. At the time at least. He told me, a few nights before my surgery 8/23/07, to look for a source group that could maybe give me what it seems he couldn't and that is what I found: HysterSisters! With all the info I've read Pre-op and Post-op, I thank God for them and you all who share your stories. So, be on the look out for me with some advice that hopefully will help some other ladies out, like your advice has done for me. Well, I'm gettin' kinda sore sitting in this one position. Still healing but I'll check back in another day to give my pointers and progression in healing. Good health ladies and know that our health lies in God's hands. Thank him for life! Bye!
