My surgery was monday-scheduled for 12:15 they called me at 10:30 said they were ready for me. But I was still 20 min away. So as soon as I arrived they took me in. My surgery was suppose to take 3 hrs. done in 1 1/2 hrs. Everthing went great. No incisions. I was way out of it when dr came in to talk to me..DH said he said I didn't have any stitches....not sure how that can be (guess i will ask at 2 week apt.). Came home tues morning. Not in too much pain--sore throat and gas pains are the worst.

Pain meds?

Had LSH on Tuesday 8/21. Returned home on Wednesday. Enormous swelly belly. They offered percoset, but I went home with Vicodin. Haven't taken any since yesterday a.m. Feel pretty sore right now, only taking Aleve, Gasx & stool softner. Thought if I didn't take the narcotic I might get rid of gas and move bowels sooner to relieve some of this distension. But feeling kind of rough right now. Walked around block today....maybe that was too much.

Feeling better....had a bowel movement so the gas has stopped a bit. Someone earlier had asked how long peopel will be out Mr. Dr. has told me to plan on six weeks, the note he had me send to my school system gave me a date of Oct. 3rd. Guess I'll have to see. Eating light but drinking up a storm....that seems to help I remember from my c-section days. People are calling and can't believe I came home the day later.............I am glad I did in fact my DH found another wesite that said the sooner you get out of the hospital the better. TV is driving me crazy nothing good on family has been great hope I can stay in bed of for the night. Happy Healing toall!!!!!

Wow you walked around the block already????...I can barely walk to the bathroom without my mom's walker....no discomfort at all for me unless i am walking or trying to get off bed/couch......I think that I read on here that the swelly belly takes a few weeks as it is not only from gas but just the bodys reaction to the surgery also....mine is very swollen also...maybe you should take a pill for the evening if you are uncomfortable...I would think that would be a little overdoing it, walking that far...but everyone is different so good for you!!

Hi Tac2005 - I had an LSH and dont have any stitches either. I have 3 cuts, 1 one by the belly button and two on the abdomen. They are covered with something that looks like clear glue that is holding the incisions together. the same thing is on the inside as well instead of actual stitches. This "glue" will eventually disolve on its own but he said I still had to be careful b/c you could still open up your incisions inside just like tearing stitches if you don't follow the rules. You dont want to cause any internal bleeding.

I am on percocet for pain. He told me that taking pain meds is important in the beginning even if you think you can tolerate the discomfort. The doc said its more important for your body to focus on healing instead of pain management so he didnt want me to try to be a "hero" at first at let my body rest without pain. He had to tell me that b/c I have a pretty high tolerance of pain and would have brushed off the pain meds. DH is making sure I am doing everthing I am supposed to.

And girlfriend who walked around the block already, please be very careful b/c I think that's a little too soon. I think we are only supposed to do very short walks at first like to the restroom, etc. I wouldnt want you to be in any unnecessary pain. I think I did a few too many short walks today and I am experiencing discomfort b/c of it. I am waiting for 10pm so I can take another pain pill. I think I will relax a little more tomorrow. Remember, we only think we feel great but our bodies have been thru trauma and need a chance to heal inside. I do undertstand that its hard though b/c although we are all recovering from major surgery, I already feel better than when I went in. Woo hoo!!

Hi
I had my TVH on the 21st. Went home the following afternoon. No cancer was reported in the lab results yippeeeee!!!! I am still on pain meds (hope not to run out) as my back and swelly belly hurt, especially at night. I am trying to just sit, but that seems to be the hardest part. So, I have dozed thru the first 2 Lord of The Rings movies, going to doze thru the 3rd installment today. I was freaking out so bad about the upcoming surgery, my fiance said 4 days before "lets get married now!", well I have to say that planning for my sudden wedding, buying dress , flowers, minister etc.... REALLY took my mind off of the big day. We had planned on the wedding being late Nov, but this was perfect, my prince charming made it as bearable as possible. The worst part of the hospital stay was the nursing care. The PTCA was wonderful, but the med floor I was on was mostly empty so I know the nurses weren't busy, and I had Hubby give them a gift bag of candy I packed (not above bribery) and the nurses hardly ever came in the room. In addition, I recieved 3 beautiful bouquets of flowers that sat at the nurses station and were never delivered to me, Hubby had to go back to the hospital for them. I work in an ER and when I go back to work I am making the nurses the yummiest dessert ever, just so that they know they are appreciated, I did not have the surgery at the hospital where I work (too weird), and now I wish that I had done so. I am really glad my Hubby was there to go get the nurse for pain meds, because pusing the button does not mean they will auctually come to your room. Thanks for the vent time, I really needed that. Oh and have already had stepson rearrange the living room so I can get in and out of my princess chair easier. Good Luck to all recovering Princesses!

Day 4

Minnie,
Sounds like your hospital stay was terrible. You should make a report to the hospital administration....no excuse for poor care. My stay was the exact opposite....the nurses were awesome. It was like my comfort was their primary concern. You wedding sounds wonderful, though!

Re: walking around the block, my dr. said walk, walk, walk. The more I walk the faster I would heal. She called yesterday to say the pathology report was A-OK and I mentioned the walk around the block at noon and the subsequent pain around dinner time. She told me to take the pain meds and rest, but that my primary job was to walk and sleep, although suggested more frequent shorter walks. I'll try that today. Don't feel quite so bloated this a.m., but it's not all gone, either.

Hope all are healing well.

sad.. recovery setback

I was doing so well... Really well actually. I was up and walking and feeling pretty good. Then Bam! 103 fever, couldnt pee, pain... lots of pain. Turns out I have not only a bladder infection from the cath but I am having bladder spasms as well. My table top looks like a pharmacy! I am on three different antibiotics and all kinds of other stuff. I feel so tired all the time. Doc says if the fever isnt in check by Monday he is putting me back in the hospital. I guess I am really not all that sad.. just disappointed. I was hoping this was all going to go smoothly. I have alot of trust in my doc and I know he will do everything he can to make this better.... I am exhuasted. time to head back to bed

Hi Everyone,

I had a TAH/left ovary taken on 21 Aug. I came home from the castle yesterday afternoon and am glad to be home! No rest in that dang castle. I feel GREAT. Cramping that feels like my monthly period which I will have no more! YEAH!!! My hospital stay was OK. I had the circulation things on my legs, a cath, O2 and IV fluids that first night. They D/C'd my foley and leg things and told me I could get up to go to the bathroom whenever I was ready. No nurse was in my room when I got up. Actually, I never had any help getting out of bed so I learned quick to raise the head of my bed to the full up position and roll on my side to get out of bed. I guess that really was the best thing for me to learn to do things on my own as soon as possible but it would have been nice to have someone there in case I fell or something. I did have some burning spots around my belly button when I got up but they would go away after I would lay down and rest. The Doctor said it is the muscles healing. Like everyone has said, waiting is the worst part and I'm glad it is over. Drink lots of water and walk! More later...
