WOW! So sorry to hear about all your bad experiences. My TAH was Wednesday August 29, came home Saturday Sept.1. I have felt fine, just sore in the stomach area -which feels huge but doesn't hurt. I only take the vicodin at night to help me relax from any soreness and get to sleep. Not that I do, it is usually 1 a.m. before I can sleep and I was only able to nap on the first day home. Luckily I sleep late. I must be getting into a bad time schedule.

Earlier in this thread people were mentioning their reactions to morphine. I also had morphine in one of my pain medications in the hospital. I asked to be switched becasue I got itchy and couldn't really sleep. I woke up every 5 minutes the first night in the hospital and the next day whenever I tried to doze I only saw psychedelic images roaring through my brain- it was crazy and I didn't want to have that happen any more.

The hospital gave me a belly band to wear and I have used it every day except today. I think I feel a little more tired today, maybe because my stomach and back are working harder to support themselves.

Also I wanted to mention that I am using a stool softner because I had very hard bm before surgery and I knew I could never have the muscle strength for that afterwards. I also used a suppository for one of my first BMs and that helped a lot.

Hope we all are feeling much better with the next week!

Anne, I know what you mean about the plain yogurt. Can you get someone to go to the store for you? I bought some of the berry yogurt that's the Activia brand which has a ton of the good bacteria in it and is made to help digestion. It tastes yummy & helps your bowels. Hope it helps you too! I don't know about the thrush but I was scared about the pooping situation, and that Activia with bran stirred in and chopped up dry fruit has kept me comfy and strain free. Here's to all of us recovering fast!

a week and 2 days

I went to work yesterday and did some bookwork. It was so nice to get out of my house. I had a weird experience last night. I haven't had any pain since coming home from the hospital. But last night the back of my right leg went numb. It was weird and, while not painful, was very uncomfortable when I tried to sit. So I had to lie down for the evening and watch tv. It didn't hurt to walk. Just to sit. But it's gone this morning so don't know what it was. Have had regular bm's so that's good. My bladder still spasms once in a while. I am bad about not drinking enough water because I live on the toilet if I do. my bladder seems to be able to hold less since my surgery. Hope that gets better as I do some serious long distance driving and going to the bathroom every half hour will suck. The swelling in my belly comes and goes. Usually worse at night. Yesterday I had some really weird discharges but figured it's just dead skin cells sloughing off. No blood or cramping. Just sort of strange pink clumps. Very very small. I drink a dtox tea every day so my system seems pretty cleaned out of all the anesthesia and pain meds. I do find myself having to struggle to complete a thought sometimes. Must be residual. Hope all my sisters are having a better day today. Love to you all, michelle

Hi guys I am 9 days post op. I guess you could say that I am lucky because I have not had much trouble. Although last nite I did start bleeding more. It is a pink colr so I am guessing that is fine. I just did more than I was supose to so today will be couch day.

I have however found myself crying ALOT. I did keep both ovaries so I don't know why I do this. Last nite I was crying but laughing at the same time because of how stupid I was fpr crying. My hubby thinks I am loosing it. I think like most of you I feel like I am useless right now. Not cleaning, cooking and shuffling kids here and there.

Well I hope everyone is doing better today and to all

tleighj,
I am with you on the emotional struggle. I did have a total and I cry all the time and or have a hot flash. I don't even feel good about having the surgery. I wish I had stuck it out longer. I think what you are going through is par for the course and know that I am there with you. Nuts we are not. Human we are.

constipated

Hi
I am 9 days post op and today I am miserable. I was doing so well up to this. I was taking the metumusil for two days and everything was going well....too well having a BM almost every time I went to bathroom 7 or 8 times a day. I thought it was excessive so I opted not to take the metumusil yesterday. Bad Call! Today I feel like I have to go but hardly anything comes. On top of this I have hemmoroids. I ate prunes, bran muffins and grapes yesterday walked drank my water but still not going. I was up at 6:30AM this morning walking. I took the metumusil this morning, hope I go soon. If any other sisters are thinking about stopping the fibre supplement. DON'T.

I had those strange pink clumps yesterday too glad it wasnt just me. I figured it was just stuff still coming out from the surgery.

I started eating that actavia everyday also for the last five days and it seems to have helped. My bladder is more active tho to I am taking Detrol for overactive bladder I htought that would help. But from all of your bladder problems too it must just be with the territory.

I have been more emotional the last three days too everythings kinda sinking in and I'm a little sad. I think youd be weird if you werent a little emotional we've all been thru alot and still have much to go thru. I hope all goes well for everyone today and pain free BMS lol

Who else can we joke about BMS with???I love this place

Can you say HOT FLASH? I am going nuts! The bright spot of my day was my doc ofc calling and saying my pathology was all negative. I am still having bladder issues and asked the nurse about them when she called earlier. She was going to talk to the dr and see what he thought. Today is my first day alone all day and it is nice not to have people hovering. Yes, I know that I am lucky to have so much help but sometimes you just want to be alone.

it's funny that you all just mentioned crying. I've been fine most of the time but on Tuesday night when I had to go the ER with my fever I was crying and couldn't stop. Tuesday night when I had been in the ER for 5 hours and still hadn't seen a doctor yet I was crying and couldn't stop. Last night I was watching the Steve Martin movie with the 12 kids (part two) and started crying and couldn't stop. I was also watching Pet Semetary which I have seen numerous times and love but had to turn it off because the scene with the "bad baby" (you'll understand if you've seen it or you will if you ever see it) just bothered me so much.

Having a much better day today than yesterday. After spending Tuesday night in the ER I was wiped out yesterday I also stopped taking the Toradol. Today I stopped taking the Percocet too. Trying to just make it through with Motrin. So far so good. I only had Motrin when I went to bed last night.

Went out today for a while. Was so nice to eat lunch out..even if it was just Friendly's.

Hope everyone is having a good day...
