TVT? Rectocele repair

Hi,

I am 14 mos. TAH post op (for cancer-but am doing very well). Now I am going in for a rectocele repair and a TVT procedure for urinary incontinence. I am wondering if any of you have had these procedures and would love to hear your experience and ideas to minimize post op issues/maximize easy recovery. Also does anyone know where I can get specific info on these actual surgical procedures.

Thanx,
your Boston sis
to you all!!!!

TVT? Rectocele repair

EJ-- to the forum!

It's VERY good to hear that you are currently doing well as far as the cancer thing is concerned.

I do have a couple of sites for you for the two procedures you asked about. The first one explains rectoceles and shows one type of standard repair. The pictures at the bottom of the page are VERY graphic so be forewarned. RECTOCELES--Graphic. The usual recommended recovery time is 6 weeks, which I assume your Dr. will tell you about or will modify one way or the other depending on your own circumstances.

This second site describes the TVT sling and is a good place to go for information about that. Just click through the links. It shows the details of the procedure. The second site has a wealth of information on other topics, too and is a great place to look around for other info. you might want about such things as the TOT sling, a version of the TVT.

One of the things to remember is to take it easy and follow those lifting restrictions your Dr. will give you in the first weeks of recovery. I was given the restrictions to NOT lift anything heavier than the TV remote for the surgery I had last February (rectocele repair, eroded mesh removal) for 2 weeks and then nothing heavier than a gallon of milk for the next 2 weeks after that. The weight restrictions gradually increased afterwards until I got to the generally recognized lifetime restriction of 'no more than about 20 pounds'.

I hope this helps you in your quest for info. Sending you a and extra +++ thoughts....

TVT? Rectocele repair

I actually had the procedures done in reverse order...in 2002 I had a TVT w/a&p repairs....the urethra sling worked wonders...have not leaked since and actually was a very easy recovery other than the first 2 days..that was only because my doctor at the time did not tell me to expect the pressure in the rectum and I kept thinking I had to have a bm and was actually straining to go..since he didn't tell me not to bear down or get constipated after surgery....at least now after LSH w/mesh repairs I knew to expect it and my doctor told me NEVER to get constipated....good luck...not living with the incontinence will be so worth the surgery
