hormones and feeling bad vs feeling good

Hello all,
I had a TVHBSO 8 August after suffering with PMDD for years. In the past my doc tried me on Prem Pro even before my surgery for hot flashes and symptoms related. I took it for about a week and stopped because, in my opinion my symptoms got worse. More painful cycles...it may have helped the hot flashes, but the pain was worse. Now that I've had a TV hysterectomy with ovaries removed...the next week I felt pretty decent, but then started with crying for no apparent reason, HOT...decided to try the "Premarin" the doc prescribed after the hysterctomy. I swear now I've had a head ache ever since... and the last few days I've had horrible cramping...still have the headache...it's the hormone, isn't it?! Now today I don't want to take it at all. But that means back to being hot as all get out...emotional...I have Zoloft too, which I want to get off of as well. I'm stable enough! Believe me...it's just the PAIN. I believe the hormones induce "menstrual" like pain. Anyone else agree or have words of wisdom?

Hi Chevelle, Sorry that you are having a hard time. You may want to try a different type of estrogen, rather than the conjugated estrogens. I had some improvement with Premarin but it didn't quite do the trick. I am now on the Vivelle Dot patch which is considered a bioidentical estrogen. I have been on it almost 10 months. Don't give up and remember the basics--water, rest, a good multivitamin, extra calcium for your bones, good nutrition, and make/take time for just yourself. I have done so much better with this patch. I feel like it gives me a steady dose of estrogen round the clock. I rest better, depression is gone, and have not gained weight on it like I did on the Premarin. Many women do well on Premarin, but it just was not for me. As you may already know, estrogen comes in many different forms and doses. Best of luck to you.

Thumbs up - hormones and feeling bad vs feeling good hormones

Hi Kristy, Dorsey,

I "was" on .3 of Premarin. I tried Prem Pro once before and I didn't like it either! So, for now, I'm not taking anything. I'll talk with my doctor in a few days when I have my 4 week Post Op check up. I haven't had a headache for two days since I stopped that Premarin. Last time I tried Prem Pro I felt horrible too. Headaches, cramping...

So, thanks for the input. I'll ask the doctor what other options I have.

Premarin & Prem Pro side effects?

I'm at the point where I'm just starting to learn about HRT. Are the negative side effects mostly physical (cramping/headaches)? Did you have these symptoms along w/ your periods before surgery?

If you do have emotional symptoms (moodiness, depression) from the hormones, is it worse than your PMS/PMDD? Thanks for any input.--Carrie
