I had my lavh on the 10th and home on the 11th of sept. Everything seemed ok and I felt fine until the 6th day when suddenly as I stood up I peed my pants.. like wooosh. I've become totally incontinent since. I went to emerg the next day and ultra sound showed my bladder looked fine and the next day back to my obgyn. She took an urine sample and I've been calling daily since. Im still incontinent which is terrible at my age (I'm 45 not 95) and one reason I had the surgery was to eliminate the use of pads, etc. Here I back to using them. Anyhow..finally heard from the doctor this morning... apparently I have a uti. Well ya know..if that was what was suspected why didn't we start the meds days ago? My goodness...I'll keep ya posted but they tell me they believe this will help the incontinence. Has anyone else EVER had this extent of this problem? I wouldn't have minded a dribble when I laughed but an all out gusher everytime I moved was a bit much.

Hi Ladies,
I was also wondering how long these steri strips are to stay on. I never thought to ask when I had the staples removed. I'm still feeling real good. I'm also still real tired. I get up at 5:30am to get my teens up for school. School starts at 7:00. I'll watch TV and drink my coffee till 9 or 10. Then it's nap time. I'll sleep for a couple of hours, get up, eat lunch, watch TV till nap time again, usually around 3:00pm. I'll sleep another hour or two. Get up and cook dinner, something easy. At dinner my DH and the kids talk about our day and then I let them know what I need them to do for me. They do the clean up and I watch more TV. Down for the night around 9 or 10. I wake up once or twice to pee at night. Before surgery I had to pee 4 to 5 times a night. I am still sleeping on the couch, I'ts the only place I can get comfy so far. I'll try the bed again in a couple of days, My DH misses me! Well I babbled enough for now. Till tomorrow, Sherri

If you mean those white strips (like bandaids), mine only stayed on for about 4-5 days. Once you start showering, they get a bit wet and curl up at the edges and eventually come off.

Hi girls,
Seems everyone is getting slowly better great to hear. My Dr has said I cant drive for another 2 weeks and I have been abit down since then. I am feeling ok painwise am only taking nurofen & panadol at night and doing a little bit of tidying up around the house I have a cleaner comming in as I have no extended family around to help and my immediate family just dont notice mess. Getting quite frustrated really I want to get out in the garden the weather is fine and its spring so things are going mad and I want to make the place look good for summer. Oh well a friend suggested I did my christmas cards. since I havent done them for the last 3 years it could be a good idea. I really need to finish a DVD that I started pre op but dont seem to have the creative zing that is required.
enough from me
Take care all

Thanks for the birthday wishes all! It was a nice quiet birthday by "normal" standards, but evidently a big output for me! lol Was also my parents' anniversary, so they came and got me for a late lunch out, and then my girlfriend fixed me dinner at her house with a movie and presents and cake. Two outings in one day was fun, but very tiring. Also, two normal size meals and cake were evidently more than my digestive system needed in one day. I haven't been eating nearly as much since the surgery (pain meds influence appetite evidently), and don't normally eat much surgar anytime. So today has been a lot of rest and recooping, along with multiple trips to the bathroom. Wouldn't have even expended the energy to shower today if I hadn't needed to go get a refill on my Ibuprophen 800. But since I took the last one last night, and as the day wore on I could definitely tell there was swelling going on, it was a must. I think I'm at the point that I now get more relief from the Ibuprophen than the pain pills. My only real pain is in the muscles above my incision which are bruised from the retractors used during surgery. I guess that's just going to take time to heal. Doc approved sedentary work as tolerated for Monday, and said it was ok to drive myself too, so I'm going to practice and work on stamina this weekend. I am lucky that my job will accomadate me being able to rest in a nice comfy recliner when I need to. They are aware that it will be baby steps for me for a while. Hope all are continuing to feel progress. Thanks for this board and the ability to share our triumphs and tribulations with each other. Blessed healing to all!

p.s. for those that, like me, can't afford or can't wait for the purchase of the swelly belly band, I got a 6" ace bandage at walmart that I wrap around my belly. It does give support and seems to help combat the fatigue in my back. Definitely helps with the car rides!!!!

Happy belated birthday wishes to Catsplusme, Yep, Im awake when you guys are all sleeping, except those insomniacs, ( I feel for you guys)

Faith, your hospital stay was really shocking huh??!! I was lucky to be in a private room on my own in the private wing, you would think it would be great huh?? Well, it was except my whinging lady was in the room next door. I had to have a bladder scan to show if my bladder had regained its strength after the catheter and was told to ring buzzer when needing to pass urine and then wait as they needed to do the scan directly after the fact. Right, I hit that button and had to wait 20 inutes for attention, by then, if I moved it wasnt going anywhere except on the floor. I hobbled and went to the bathroom luckily making the bowl. When my nurse came in another 10 minutes later hubby was a bit short with her asking what would have happened if I was alone in the room and needing immediate attention. Her answer, well the lady next door complains and whinges so much we see to her first. Thats what happens to nice people who dont rock the boat huh!! Apart from that I was very lucky and had a reasonable stay.

Went for a drive with hubby today and as he broke across the traffic he had to brake sharply at the island in the middle to allow for oncoming traffic. Yep, I screamed and it hurt. He felt so bad he had tears in his eyes. not fair on him, but I now know why the doc sasid dont drive. I am hoping that I dont have any dramas after because of it.

I dont have a post op until week seven so I guess I should just keep on keeping on, luckily for me I am relatively pain free and not too tired unless I walk too much late in the day.

Cheers to all,

Keep on curing.

Nelly

I think I may have passed a stitch yesterday. I know that is normal. I didn't have much bleeding yesterday, just some blood tinged stuff. I was a bit concerned about the bright red blood and thought, well, I am going to the doc on Monday so I should be ok, but as a nurse, I know how honkerblonked off the docs get when you don't report something that you should. So, I called and let him know. I am going to take it easy this weekend and hope that the bleeding subsides. I just don't want to aggravate anything anymore than I have. I figure all the little things that need tending to can wait till I am cleared which I am thinking will be about another week or so. I am not having much pain. Just some cramping but nothing major. I had cramping last night but was too lazy to get up and get the ibuprofen...so, I figure that is a good sign.

....hey---does anyone know when the steri-strips (the band aid strips that are put on after the staples are taken out) come off?...do they fall off or does the doctor take them off at the 6 week checkup?

Almost 3 weeks post op - can you say stir crazy?

Hi all
Its almost 3 weeks now since my hyster. I am starting to get a bit stir crazy! I am usually a pretty active person, I own 2 horses and cannot wait till I get the green light to ride again but this being laid up is starting to drive me a bit insane!
I go from the computer to the tv to trying to shop a little in the clothing store to find some comfy clothes until I can wear jeans again, I end up leaving the store unsatisfied and go back home because I am usually exhausted. I am abiding by all the rules, no lifting, no straining ect..anyone else feel this way? Hubby took me out for dinner last night, first time out for dinner, it was nice, had a few glasses of wine and enjoyed it very much. Sorry I just had to vent about being so bored!
Hugs to all
Connie
