Dear pjdisme,

I have only hooked up to this site in the last few days and have found it to be really helpful in comparing and understanding where I am in my recovery compared to other people. It helps to stop you panicing when you read what everyone else is experiencing.

Hallelujiah! The heavens have opened up! Yesterday I got my catheter out (not as unpleasant as I had feared), I peed by myself and I pooped! I have never been so excited in my life!!! Ah...it's the little things in life :-)

finally got to shave my legs yesterday! Was starting to look like a cavewoman.

I do feel lucky compared to many of you who've been cut from left to right. I only have 3 small incisions to be concerned about and recovery for me seems to be going great. I am not sure if this is related to my surgery, but I've been very congested since this has all been done. It may be seasonal allergies, or it could be a side-effect of the Percocet.
Had my 2nd BM today, finally.
My husband went back to work yesterday so I will have to drive my son to his afternoon pre-school class today. I know I'm not supposed to drive for another week, but he's got to go. My other two kids are in school all day, so it's nice to have some quiet time. Hubby has been great, very supportive and doing most of the stuff around the house.
I'm thinking also that I may be allergic to those strips that were used to cover the incisions. My belly has been itching like crazy around the incisions, and I have red marks where the original hospital bandaids were.

tah on the 6th

Hi everybody!
had surgery on the 6th came home on the 8th. First day was rough.. Hint if you feel like you have to pee when you have the cath in, tell someone. Mine was kinked "ouch".
Morphine button was my friend, but made my BP drop so low they put me on Toradol and Darvocet.

Home has been a great place to recover. I haven't been on the computer because it's here in the basement , so this is only the second time down here. I only use the stairs to go up to my bedroom at night!! I am resting well and walking like I should. The only complaint I have is my back is really sore, I think it's because I walk bent over and all the sittting and reclining I do, as I'm an on the go person all the time. IBprohen during the day and 1 darvocet at night.

My recovery has been uneventful, and I am very thankful for this. Hope everyone is doing great, I love getting PM's anytime girls!

Hi,
How long did you have your catheter in? I don't get mine out until next Thursday. I had a lkiter of fluid in it when I was discharged and had to go back in. How long did it take for you to pee on your own after it was taken out?
Good luck to you and thanks.

Good morning ladies,
Finally shaved my legs last night too! I couldn't stand it any longer...I was feeling like a sasquach!!

Today is day 8 after surgery. Today I go to the Docs office to get the staples removed. Thank God. I have 12, don't know if its going to hurt getting them removed, probably!

I think I am starting to get a little stir crazy! I am finding myself on the computer more and more, getting a bit bored with tv. I want to start walking some outside, its so beautiful out today!
The pain is minimal. Still taking 800 mg motrin 2x/ day. Ambion at night to help sleep.
Hope my sisters are all recovering as well as I am.

on the home run

Hi Sisters,
I am back from the castle and all went really well.
I feel for all the sisters that were sent home in one or two days after surgery. I went in on the 7th (TAH and right ovary)and they asked me if I felt up to going home on the 12th by this time they had reduced my meds to panadol and ibuprofen and i was coping really well and thouroughly bored with day time TV and trash mags. Had a bit of a struggle with the morphine early on I wasn't breathing properly and then my blood sugar went through the roof. Haven't got to the bottom of that yet. But all in all a happy experience.
I am wondering if the Australian private health system is better than the US one are they sending you home because they need the beds or do you want to go home so soon?
My belly is also sore to the touch and and numb at the same time I am spending alot of time naked under the bed clothes. The Gyno said it was normal and would then get pins and needles before it got better.
I am so glad I didnt read the post op stuff b4 I went in.
8 weeks ago I had my appendix out and then got peritonitus and was back in for a week really I'll. if I had read all your stories I wouldnt have gone near another hospital.
Take care of yourselves if no one else will.
Love &
Holly

Thanks, Nelly. I am getting a little panicky. I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy (14 week size uterus with fibroids and cervix taken) on the 4th and have not had much success with bowel movements. I was peeing really well in the beginning, since that was the big reason for getting a hysterectomy in the first place. Now, it trickles out but I think it's because of my bloated, inflamed bowels. I'm calling them that, I haven't been diagnosed. They just feel so tender and I'm so gassy. It seems like the gas bubbles are pressing on my bladder now? I dunno? Anyway, my husband says I'm worrying too much and I'm trying to be patient but I'm nervous, what can I say? By the way, my doctor, who I think is AMAZING, is doing a presentation on the 20th of the type of surgery I had (don't think it's me) on youtube. You might find that interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAzO200VI0M
