Bowel Prep?

Okay. The doctor said I didn't need to do this but I'm sure it would be "better" if I did....

As I understand it....I have two options? Enema with something like fleet? and/or Mag Citrate? The latter you drink? Do you do that the night before or earlier in the day? If earlier...can you eat solids after? Help?

Bowel Prep?

Hi funnyesq!
I'm going the day after you. My Dr. said No bowel prep either. When I'm nervous I seem to clean myself out. Sorry I can't help you on this one. Good Luck on Friday.

Bowel Prep?

Hi funnyesq!

It's important that you follow your doctor's orders regarding bowel prep. If your doctor doesn't suggest that you do it, you shouldn't do it. Not all doctors require it--mine didn't. It's best that you arrive at the hospital as the doctor expects you to arrive.

If you have a reason for wanting to do some form of bowel prep, please call your doctor and find out what he suggests for you.

Best wishes for your surgery!

Bowel Prep?

Every doctor is different and if yours says you don't need to do it then don't. Mine initially told me I'd have to drink the mag citrate and no enema. Today at my pre-op she decided that since I don't have issues with constipation that all I need to do is take Miralax for the two days before surgery. Their concern with the bowel prep is that narcotic pain medications can cause or worsen constipation. Some of the drugs you might get can also slow down the motility of your intestines and, thus, lead to constipation too. ~ jen : )

Bowel Prep?

I just finished up with citrate stuff...yuck yuck yuck consider yourself lucky and don't do it. My Dr. likes it done so the bowel is completely empty. My uterus is so large she will need all the room she can get, and an empty bowel helps that out I guess!!!
