Hi Recovery & Reinventingrobin
As far as tight scars go - I massage 'Bio Oil' into my scar twice a day, I have been doing this since about week 2, apparantly it take about 3 months to change it from a red mark to a white line. I find it helps on the ends of the horizontal cut as they are the tightest. All the stitches have now dissolved and its looking good.
Recovery I don't know how big your apartment is - but you could always do what the Victorian ladies did when they wasn't allowed out in bad weather because of thier long dresses - they use to take a turn around the room ie just walk around the house - it's a thought I hope the weather clears up for you soon though.

Anyway, I have gained 5 POUNDS! I am so frustrated, and KNOW that I need to change my diet, but I'm still working on constipation, so it's just a process at this point. What I really want to do is get on my elliptical. Has anyone tried that yet?

Hey there,
I was having pains in my upper left side (around the rib cage), and at a dr. appt, he thought the pain might be from the bowl not completely emptying - even though I was going. He told me to take one teaspoonful of milk of magnesia every night before bed for a month. Well, after the first few days, the bowl movements increased (still soft though), and the pain in the left side decreased and is currently non-existent. That might help with your constipation too. Hope that helps!

I asked about excercise during my doctor's appointment yesterday. He said I could walk but to ease into things. He said no crunches or situps for three more months. I wouldn't do a treadmill unless it was at a slow pace. He stressed the part about no adominal workouts.
I had lost 8 pounds, but I don't know where. My pants are still tight.

Diamondsister,
Thanks for the idea about exercise inside my apt. I only have 500 square feet, but I guess I can pace back and forth

Another thought, I can go to a store and walk around there! As long a I don't spend too much money, LOL.

I forgot who asked about physical therapy massage for the incision. I called my insurance company and they said they would pay for it. Then I called a PT office, and they said they do not do massage. You would have to go to a certified masseuse. Then she said PTs can help you with exercises and stretches, but would need orders from the doctor to state exactly what he/she wants done. Well, I have called my doc's office at least 80 times between preop and postop and I don't feel like calling again I like the idea of using that Bio Oil and masaging ourselves. It won't hurt it as long as our incision are completely healed, which my doc said mine is.

Best to all!

the malls are a great place to walk and look

you can walk as slow or as fast as you want -- and they have places to sit a spell

Good luck

This may officially be my last post! I am five-weeks post-op today and totally back to my normal life. I even ran this past Saturday and have had no discharge or other problems. I am so incredibly grateful that I did this. I'm still so flippin' anemic from years of slowly bleeding to death, but that's coming back more than ever. My primary care physician says it could take three months before we see any real progress toward the "normal" range, but I feel like I have more energy already.

This site - and all of you have been great! It's nice to hear the same anxieties and realize you're not crazy; to get good advice; and to have a sympathetic ear out there when you need it. Best of luck to everyone. Goodbye Hystersisters!

I'm so happy for you. It sounds like you are almost 100 percent recoverd. I'm pleased as punch. Just as a side note, as others have given to you during your worst time during recovery, please drop by the newbie section and give some encouragement and advice. I plan to do the same.

You go girl!
Hugs, from your sis.
