2 week post op check tomorrow

Hello All.
These last 2 weeks have been full of ups and downs. Tomorrow I go in for my 2 week check up, which is good.
I went and caught something. Whatever it is it has settled into my lungs and the coughing is about to kill me. Ran out of pain meds, doctor has been out of town so I am so glad my appoinment is tomorrow. Thank the lord for pillows, because when your coughing you sure need them. Will let you know whats up after my appoinment. Hugs to you all. Mbrainman

2007 - Hysterectomy Oct 01, 2007 - Oct 08, 2007

Tuesday October 16,2007
Today's doctor appointment went well. The doctor said that I had fluid pockets below the skin. Its not infected but is sore. The doctor gave me a shot of meds he gave me at the surgery that could help the pain. It will heal on its own. It was sure nice to get out and drive. I went to a few stores and it was nice shopping. I didn't carry anything heavy.
I am a little tired and taking it easy tonight. I have taken the same meds today.

I'm glad your post op appt. went well and that there was no infection at the sites. I just now took off my outer, plastic bandages and looked beneath the steri strips. I have 4 from the laparoscopes and 2 in my groin where the urologist punched holes for the sling to thread through. Those have glue on them. I assume it absorbs? Anyway, the areas where the scope punched through seem to be healing fine. No pain or redness. The one on the left side was a little wet, probably from taking a shower and some water getting under the bandage. I cleaned it and put a new band aid on it.

My post op checks are the 23rd and 24th.

Today was another great day. I don't even feel like I had surgery. I did stay home, though, except for a quick walk with my dogs and then to pick my daughter up from school and drive her to voice lessons. We went out for Chinese food tonight. I have my appetite back, that's for sure! Sheesh, Friday is my Weight Watchers weigh-in and I'm afraid the 4-5 lbs. I lost after the surgery will be back.

I have to say it's nice not feeling my bladder falling out anymore. And to be able to urinate without always feeling like there's some still in there! Or having the dribbles when I get up from the toilet. No more!! I hope it lasts!

Hi VetTech: I went to the dr's on Monday and got a refill of my pain meds. I am now down to two percoset each day - one in the morning and one around supper time. I'm not ready to go without them yet as my core muscles are just too sore. I'd never get off the couch without them!

I'm sore today but I think I just overdid it yesterday. I had movies to return so it was the first time I drove. Looks like I'm in for a day on the couch today!

Good morning ladies! Hope all is well!

Much more than I bargained for

Hi all - I am new to the site and have never entered a forum before, but am so frustrated with my recovery that I decided to give it a shot and try to get some advice from people who know and have experience! I am a 30-year-old mother of two, and I had a hysterectomy, rectocele repair, and vaginoplasty (resuspension of the vagina) on 10/04/07. My recovery since has been fraught with complication after complication.

The first was an allergy to the spinal epidural "Dura-Morph", which made me have uncontrollable itching and then leg cramping and spasms. The pain medicine had to be reversed to to the allergy and I was without any pain medication directly after the surgery for 24 hours. This, in addition to the uncontrollable itching, 12 doses of benadryl and something else for the allergic reaction, caused me to have a 2 day hospital stay. However, eventually they got me on some pain medictaion that I could have since I am allergic to morhpine, took out the catheter, and sent me home.

The next day, I was throwing up everying I ate, could hardly stand the pain, and was getting a high fever. I had to go back to the ER, where I was diagnosed wtih an ileus and small bowel obstruction, that is apparently life threatening if not treated, so I was admitted. They put in a nose tube to my stomach and I was not allowed food or drink for 3 more days until my bowels began working again. After the fourth day they sent me home again, and I have not had any more "bowel" trouble to speak of.

Lastly, have had a ton of cramping, bleeding, and passing of large blood clots. I never had this before even with childbirth, so was quite scared the first time I passed a golf-ball sized clot. Each time I call the doctor/nurse, they pass it off as no big deal, tell me to go to the ER if I am absolutely bleeding through a pad an hour, which I am not, and just to rest. All that I have read says not to expect heavy bleeding. I am just so tired of all of this and worried that there may be a problem in there still. When I was admitted last week for the small bowel obstruction they did a CT scan and found a fluid pocket in my pelvic region that was 5x7cm. The nurse said it was a pool of blood from my surgery and that it could be the cause for the bleeding and all of my discomfort, but I was never told about it until yesterday!

So, all in all, I have had a really hard recovery to date and really just feel like breaking down and going back into the ER to have them diagnose the bleeding and to check to see if everything is all right. I can't do that though, because I am home with a 2 yr old and 9 yr old and husband went back to work after being off for 10 days. Need advice please!

Wk went well last night, I felt tired out by 8:00. Feel just fine today. It felt great to be back at it. Are you back to wk already? I walk about 3miles now, before surgery I was walking/ running. I did a 5k the weekend before the surgery. Before my periods started coming every 2 wks I had been working up to a 10K. I could not break the 5 mile mark...I am thinking it was because I was anemic again and I just kinda fizzled out. I feel like I have been really spotty on my running/walking since. I hope to regain my energy
( seems to have been lacking like forever..) and get back on the track, I like running but seem to always run into roadblacks. Oh yeah, I also sprained my ankle in May...that sucker still baothers me at times..Geez It seems I have been one medical problem after another the last 2 yrs...enouph already

Have a great day! The sun is out, I better get out there!

Lovestorun:
Just a few thoughts...If you had a hysterectomy, why would you be bleeding large clots? mY impression is that after a hysterectomy you should only be seeing slight blood/mucus. That sounds really strange to me. I think you need to go with your gut insticts and push the envelope! What does your doc/nurse think ER would do if you went in? The same thing your doc should be doing right now, why arn't they? You are the patient, you are paying the bill, you need to advocate for yourself. It is your health, your body and you know it best. You have every right to be concerned and be assertive. Let us know how things progress, I hope all will be resolved.

It wouldn't hurt to go to the "ER" just for peace of mind. I am an "ER" RN an I can tell you this, the doctor will probably look in your vagina with a speculum to see if there is anything deviating from what should be normal.
