2 days post op

So had surgery on the 4th. LAVH went well. Ovaries remained intact. Today my husband had to make breakfast, and take the kids to soccer, etc. I felt so sorry for him, I called by friend and she came over and did the laundry and is cooking enough food for a couple of days.

Feeling great. Limited pain. Trying not to cough or laugh. Lots of gas pain. Walking alot. maybe too much. I have to remember that even though I don't have an outward incision, I still have to heal.

One tip. Take some pain meds before the ride home. That was probably the most painful part of the process.

I miss the rails on the hospital bed. Difficulty getting up from bed. Little spotting, but overall all is good.

Good luck to those who go next. I was very concerned pre-op and so I overplanned. In the end, the planning made me feel better and I'm currently in the guest room downstairs with every thing I could possible need. I plan to go back up to bed in a couple of days.

Day 5 post-op and all is well. Hubby is taking care of the kids and the house this weekend. I didn't want their life interrupted any so everything is going smooth. I have alot of ?nervous? energy so I have managed to play a few Wii games with the kids in between naps. I haven't had any gas problems- take a stool softner/laxative combo every night so no problems there- and taking sitz baths and applying the miracle lidocaine gel and hydrocortisone cream 2-3 times daily. Still walking to the end of the street a couple times a day and sleeping pretty good at night, though I'm still getting used to the "new" bladder and have to answer the call at least once. Hubby is coming down with terrible cough- same one the kids had last week- I just hope I don't get it- that would be very painful. One evening after laughing with the family I became extra sore and have decided to keep the belly laughs to a minimum. Expecting a new netfix shipment early next week- that passes time. Good luck to all!! Staci

Hey Girls,

Seems like everyone is feeling pretty good considering what we've been through over the last week or so!!

Went to the dr. yesterday to check out the "fever" I was running. He did some blood work & a urine test, but decided to err on the side of caution and put me on an antibiotic just in case. I was happy with that - no need to take any chances. Have not had anymore fever though - so weird. I am however, having awful night sweats. Doc went ahead and started me on the Vivelle Dot which will hopefully help with those "hormonal issues". He explained to me that at my age, 42, my ovaries were still producing hormones quite well. So, I will have a much more rapid response to the lack of hormones than say a woman in her 50s or 60s because by then your ovaries are naturally not producing as rapidly. Makes sense!! My kids asked me if I was still going to be nuts or if the operation had fixed that : ) Their grandmother had a long talk with them and explained that doctors can only do so much and truth be known their mom's (my) craziness was not all "hormonal". I think they'll still love me though!! I like to think of myself as a passionate & very vocal person, not crazy, just very passionate about people I love, and issues that are important to me and my family!!

Anyway, my head is finally clearing - been off pain meds since Wednesday. Just taking advil now for crampy soreness. Being prepared for the worst, I have been so pleasantly surprised with my recovery. Not ready to run any marathons or anything, but have been out with the family all day just doing "easy" stuff. Thank you Jesus!!!!

Take care girls and I'll let you know how this little "patch" works!!

Kim

Hello all,
Had my TAH/removal of left ovary on OCT 3rd. Cathater wasn't that bad, was quite thankful for it actually that first night. They removed it the following morning. They let me come home the evening of OCt 4th. Was nice to be home for comfort reasons. Glad to be off the morphine drip. Still having problems keeping my pain under control though. Should know sometime this coming week all my pathology results. Hugs to you all. Will be back on here later. Mbrainman

Heres2me, Your kids comments was hilarious. Reminds me of when my sister took my mom to the doctor for a brain tumor and the doc was assuring mom that she would be normal after the operation. My sister looked at him deadpan and said, "What makes you think she was normal before?" I don't think he knew how to take that. (Sorry, off subject, just made me remember.)

not sleeping

Had everything out Laprascopically on Oct. 4 and home on Oct. 5. Glad to be able to come home and sleep in my own bed and quiet house! But this second night I am not sleeping - weird dreams, waiting for the next pain pill. Also, not hungry, but needing to eat something to be able to take my pain medication. Glad to hear that others have sore neck muscles - made me wonder what they did to my head while I was out of it! Still only having gas, not passing anything solid. Guess that is normal, too. A bit emotional over little things, but hopefully that too will pass.

2007 - Hysterectomy Oct 01, 2007 - Oct 08, 2007

Hi all,
I finally had a bm and I lost a pound lol. I feel so much better now that I found out how to sleep in bed being not so flat. I had several sleep rests today so after I went to bed tonight I got two hours of sleep and felt rested to get back up for an hour and will head back to bed soon. I feel like such a new woman I pray that this is not just a dream to wake up from.lol
I had a great walk 1/3 of the way to kids school right down the street. I plan to walk farther each day and back until I make it to the school with my husband. I hope to be able to walk them to school by thursday. that is the day my husband goes back to work. I do have a back up plan if that doesn't happen. I have an awsome DF that can take them. tommorrow( when I get back up) I hope to have only one sleep nap so I can sleep a good 4-6 hours at night. God is so Good. I am so blessed. I pray for my other hyster sisters can have great experierences too. Try to be positive.

Did too much

Had LAVH on the 4th, came home eve of 5th. Did too much on the 6th. In bed with some pain today. Took Vicodin and trying to relax. House is empty and that helps. Too many visitors doesn't allow enough rest. But grateful that others want to help, so....

Still having trouble sleeping. Anyone with suggestions out there? Tried body pillow with limited success.

Coughing a little but trying to expand lungs.

If you're having surgery soon, my prayers are with you and accept the help that is offered to you.

Good luck, and God bless.

Okay ladies, "night sweats" are the pits!! Anyone else suffering from these yet? My body temp definitely got hotter with each of my 3 pregnancies - so I'm not totalling new to this feeling. I'm not sleeping well either - last two nights still starring at the clock at 3am (and I have not been napping during the day!). Then when I did finally start to drift off, the all over hot flast started. About that same time my husband and my little yorkie decided they wanted to snuggle with me. Yow!! Way to much body heat for this gal!! Untangled myself sweaty self from the two of them and contemplated a trip downstairs to the sofa - that's the last thing I remember!!

I realize I'm not really doing much to wear myself out.... I'm more used to getting up at 6:30am and running around like a mad woman all day and collapsing at midnight.

I keep thinking this "little patch" will kick in and help with the sweaty sleeping issues. I just really need my sleep!!!!
Wishing you all a wonderful & restful day : ) Kim

night sweats

How funny, I was just thinking that it was too many covers when I woke up soaked yesterday! Now I remember my gyn saying that there would be some affects of monkeying around with my ovaries.
