I Found Out Why!

Difference between at clear liquid diet and a liquid diet--
do you know why they request clear? I asked a friend of ours today who was a military medic. It is the PH level. Water is neutral, neither alkaline or acidic. A CLEAR liquid diet is to
keep the stomach PH settled. If it gets to acidic after surgery,
you get an unsettled tummy! I start my clear liquid diet tomorrow and I have my last home to clean for only 90 minutes or so. I ave jello to make tonight. I bought ready madejello to take to work with me. (I have a 30 minute drive going and coming) Any
other ideas of something can take to work with me? I have the 6 pack of jello but I accidentally bught sugar free--maybe they will
be enough!

Thats great info! I thought clear liquid meant that you could see through it..therefore nothing to clog the bowel like noodles. Gee...if I had only asked!

If these things were explained in advance and we understood the reasons we could plan so much better.

Thanks Sheri!

What diet

I have not been told about any diet so far. Is this something all of us will have to do or only a select few? Could you explain. THANKS

Some doctors require that their patients be on a clear liquid diet the day before surgery. I had to have a clear liquid diet for 24 hrs. before surgery. My co-worker had a hysterectomy three months before mine, and her instructions were nothing by mouth after midnight. We both went to the same hospital, but had different doctors.

You can ask your doctor about this or ask the nurse when you go for your Pre-admission testing. They will write everything down for you on your PreOp instructions.
