Hormone blood test results

Well, I'm post-menopausal (as if I didn't know that for the past 3 years!).

Estradiol = 7 pg/m: range under 27 post meno
Progesterone = .7 ng/mL
Testosterone= 52 ng/dL

If I did the math correctly my Progesterone/estrogen ratio: 100:1.

My guess:

I definitely need estrogen.

1. I have interrupted sleep.
2. I'm moody, irritable and intolerant
3. difficulty losing weight.
4. More body fat than I think I should have.
5. Dry vagina
6. Bone loss (still normal but rate is high?)
7. hot flashes
8. high LDL (ratio of LDL to HDL is still good).
9. Pain (joint/muscle)

If I add estrogen, my thought is to add progesterone too to increase the ratio. Also because I fear adding estrogen without adding progesterone. If I get my estrogen up to say 50+ and my progesterone stays where it is...the ratio goes down and that may not be optimal ( think 100:1 is as low as it should be???). Plus estrogen dominance got me the fibroids and the huge uterus I removed last month. Hearing how estrogen dominance has other adverse affects I don't want to run that risk again.

I don't think I need testosterone.

Any suggestions?

I'd like to go the bio-identical route and the transdermal route. My reading said that bio-identical is preferred and safer and that transdemal was the most efficient way to add the hormones.

Your thoughts?

Thanks.

I have been using the bio-identical Vivelle dot patch(estradiol) for 5 years, and have been very pleased with it. My doctor has treated me according to my symptoms because sometimes the hormone levels don't match how I feel. I had one doctor say my estrogen levels were fine, yet I was having hot flashes. Once we started treating my sypmtoms and not trying to match assumed optimum levels, I found balance.

Hang in there

Your estrogen levels do look like they could use a boost. I would be careful with the progesterone though. I tried to get my ratio bumped up to 100:1 and found myself very very depressed and sleepy all the time. My progesterone levels now are .7 and I feel great with that, even though my estradiol levels are quite a bit higher then yours.

I would suggest that you start slow and find the lowest dose of estrogen that takes care of your symptoms. Then you can see if you need to add any progesterone. It is a very individual thing.

s and Best Wishes,
Kay
