I had a few hot flashes last week, but for only about 3 days. Nothing since. I'm 49, though, and was probably flirting with menopause anyway. I had plenty of hot flashes leading up to surgery, so I'm really feeling better now than before surgery. One of my ovaries was totally cystic and my gyne thought it must have been extremely dysfunctional prior to surgery, with lots of hormonal imbalance.

It might depend on how close you were to menopause to begin with.

I am only 31 so I am not sure how close I was. I don't think I was very close. It is the sweating that is killing me.

Night sweats! Oh how I hate them! I swear, I must lose pounds of weight each night while I sleep. I have hot flashes during the day too, usually 3 or 4 times, and I get night sweats every night. I'm 28, nowhere near menopause ( I don't think.....), but I had constant heavy bleeding for 6 months before the surgery, so I wonder if that has something to do w/ the hormones? My body wasn't right for so long, that I think it'll take it a while to find itself again. At least it's good to know that I'm not the only one who feels like a smelly mess in the mornings!!!!!

Hi! I had my surgery Oct 9th and came home on the 10th. I had a complete laprascopic/vaginal hysterectomy (sorry I'm new and don't know all the lingo) and had very little pain. I'll be 3 weeks out on Tuesday. Anyway, I've taken maybe 3 of the Darvocet the dr gave me and really have been back to normal very quickly. I think I expected more pain! I've been back at work for almost 2 weeks now but I set my own hours and can work from home so it's not a horrible hardship. The worst problem was from the stool softener they gave me - worked too well. Ugh! So, I stopped that after about a week and haven't had any problems. Part of my lower bowel was adhered to my abdominal wall (cursed endometriosis) and I had been having problems for a while, so I'm glad that's taken care of.

Hi all.

I am now into week 3 and getting very frustrated! I am getting a lot of burning pain to the right of my incision and my belly is still sore to the touch below my navel. Also I am getting a sharp pain when standing (or sometimes when sitting) in my belly about 2 inches to the right of my belly button-half way between my incision and my waist. At night I fall asleep very easily but am always woken about 2-3 am with really bad lower back ache (feels like my kidneys will explode!). Also still having trouble with gas and some constipation (the pains on one side are preventing me from walking as much I should).

So I went to the DR Friday and he said that everything felt, and looked fine and its just my insides 'complaining' about having surgery and that I have to accept that this will take time to sort itself out. He said to keep as active as I can (easier said than done!) and gave me a gentle laxative.

Poor DH & DS are being great, doing all the housework and cooking etc. and have been looking after me really well, but now I am starting to feel bad as I should be able to help a bit now, but standing or walking for more than a minute or 2 brings on this belly pain (it can be quite sharp at times).

DH keeps telling me thats its only just over 2 weeks but the poor thing is exhausted as he has to go to work and then do everything else when he gets home, and he now has a really bad back!

Anyway thanks for listening to my moans and groans, wishing you all well.

I am starting my 4th week post-op today...I also have burning pain to the right of my incision and my belly is still sore to the touch, I can't stand clothes to rub against it, I was walking rather well last week and know the mornings are good, but as evening vomes around an ice pack helps. But don't leave it on for long. My post-op apt. isn't until 11-6-07. I have no constipation anymore. I make sure I have at least one apple a day and fiber alon with it. I have some spotting this past week, the first since the day I left the hospital. I have been reading and heard this is normal, as the insides are starting to heal. Maybe thats why the right side of my incision hurts. I am taking it easy this week to let the insides hel better. I am concerned dabout all my muscles. i have a very strenuous (SP) job and I need to start exercising or I won't survive my first day back.

Thanks twobtrue,

Its a relief to know that other people are getting the same feelings/sensations that I am, I guess its just the nerve endings after surgery (which my dr advises is normal). I will try the ice pack though! I too am going to take it easy again for this week as do not want to make matters worse. My post-op appt is 27th November so another month for that! I am getting so fed up of wearing my pj's but they are all I have that's comfortable! My Mum is picking me up tomorrow though to go to hers for lunch so maybe a change of scenery will be good!

toriatee and twobtrue, i am right there with you guys. feeling okay one minute, horrible stabbing pains the next. still in jammies as i can't imagine the discomfort of regular clothes. hubby and son are doing everything and i feel guilty, wanting to help out but not really being able to do too much. i'm not having the hormone jags at all, thankfully. maybe it's kept to a minimum because i am on meds for anxiety and depression.

my post op is also at the end of nov, but i'm calling the doctor today as this weekend i had heavier bleeding w/ the increased pain. i'm okay today, but still calling just in case.

I too am on anxiety and depression meds. One anxiety meds for about 4 years now, and started the depression meds. back in August of this year.I think my problem is I am getting tired of all of this. Not being able to do anything and just sitting around (I take my usual 10 laps around the house in the morn.) but that is it. So far I have little spotting and it is not the usual red, like blood. Its more brownish. Don't sometimes whenyou are typing some of this stuuf its like " alittle bit more information than they needed to know?" lol
