I've hit my 2 wk mark and this fri will be 3 wks post op. I have felt great. I even wore clothes (loose elastic waist) home from the hsptl and every day shower and dress. I feel like i've done exceptionally well, EXCEPT for the tearing, burning, searing pain in my lower left side. I saw the dr. about it after 1 wk because nothing else really hurt-not the incision or anything-and so I was sure there must be something wrong with that side. He informed me that it would take 3-4 weeks for internal sutures to heal and dissolve and there is nothing that can be done about it. "So you think it's the sutures" I asked. He replied " Well, it's something pulling, and whatever it is, nothing can be done about it." After a bit of refelection on the fact that I had just had things cut out of me and other things jostled around inside me, I guess I need to keep it in perspective. I remember when my mom used to get my ponytail too tight. That pulled alot at first too, but then as the day wore on, it would gradually get better. I do think it is getting better now, though it still hurts. I remind myself the Lord may be teaching me patience. I really want to figure out a way to go back to work after 4 wks rather than 6. I may loose my mind if i have to stay around here that long. I have a desk job and can remind myself not to lift. You guys are great for support. I live in an all male household, and though they do help, and they have been on their "best behavior", they are under the influence of testosterone and ....'nuff said.

Thank you for your kindness. You guys are really good to each other. Too bad all of our hyster sisters don't know about this place! I'm 12 days out from my surgery; can I sweep the kitchen floor?

bobbygigi-ditto what goosey said. Don't sweep. I have felt really good and really bored. Today I did much less sitting and more doing (light, careful sweeping) and lots (apparently too many) tummy contractions (suckin in and holdin). OKAY I ADMIT IT! I HURT NOW! I'm fixin to go dig up some pain med. to try to get thru the night. You'd think i would be smarter at age 50.

I didn't know about those Checkpoints! Good deal.

I've been reading all the posts; such a wealth of experience and sharing. At 12 days out from a total abdominal hysterectomy and bladder and rectum repair, I grateful for the sense of healing. I just yesterday started spotting enough to use one mini pad a day and I would have been scared if I hadn't read about it here. Isn't that odd? We go for almost 2 weeks after the operation with no bleeding or spotting, then out of nowhere, it shows up? Counter-intuitive.

I am taking 2 Percoset a day still, not because I am doubled over in agony but because pain has me in a vice grip and the Percoset pushes the pain back so I can feel relief from the gnawing ache. I wondered today if we don't put ourselves in jeopardy because the pain meds work so well that we do more than we should because we feel "OK". Just a thought. But who cares? hahaha. I'll trade over-doing it for the pain I had anyday.

Love to hear about the Princesses and how they live their lives in their homes and families. Really nice. Babies, grandbabies, good husbands, lazy teenagers, snuggly pets. I'm so glad I had this done... my insides feel better than they have in YEARS.

I'm a little worried about weight gain. I have tried to get on the treadmill but seem to only be able to last 10 minutes at a time. Then my body screams at me and tells me to go lie down. I feel frustrated and want my body back. I just want to get past this. On a lighter note, I got back my pathology and was given peace that this was my only option. I thank God every day that I didn't wait longer. It's a wonderful feeling to have peace about a decision. It doesn't come often in life. I wish the same for the rest of you.

I had my surgery on Oct. 9th... As of today I am better, but Friday at my post op appt. they found that I had a bladder infection. My back hurts when I sit on a hard chair and I am having pain and feel a heaviness in my lower abdomen, where my bladder is... I am now on antibiotics for 5 days, and I hope that this takes care of everything. Regarding weight gain, I only gained 2 pounds, which I thought was good considering how much I have eaten at times. As far a exercise, don't try to do too much too fast. I have a Leslie Sansone tape and I also do her workouts from Fittv (cable)... In the morning I do 16 minutes of light walking and in the evening I might do 22 minutes or a little more depending on how I feel. The walk routine is gentle, but altogether I burn about 250 to 300 calories with altogether, I wear a heart rate monitor. So if you can do 1, 2 or more exercise sessions per day, the effects are cumulative. Eat mostly fruit, veggies and very lean protein. Eat prunes, I average about 8 prunes a day, and fiber cereal, I eat Fiber one raisin bran, 11 grams of fiber per serving and drink a lot of water, I also take 2 collace per day, one in the morning and one before I go to bed. Keep in mind that flaxseed and fish oil have calories from fat, so monitor your intake of these right now, if you are worried about weight gain... This should ward off weight gain along with consistent exercise. You may also want to consider doing some weight bearing or resistance exercises to build muscle... muscle burns efficiently . Right now I am doing upper body workouts with 2 - 5 pound dumbbells, or resistance bands... I have a variety of workout videos that I am using for this. For abs, I am just trying to do gentle isometric holds throughout the day. Listen to your body and rest when you need to...

I too would like to be able to exercise like before my surgery, but it takes time, and once we get past this we'll be on our way to our old "new" selves.. 's dee

Anyone Know About Facial Hair

I admit, being brunette and going thru menopause symptoms over 7 years (had an ablation in 2000), i've been tweezing chin hairs nearly daily, but i'm convinced in the last nearly 3 weeks (TAH on 10/12) i'm definitely growing a mustache. Anybody else? If so, do you wax, bleach or what? I've never been high maint but i am not gonna put up with this! There's gotta be an easy fix!

Hi all. I just got back from the doc. She said I had a setback this weekend (beleeding and pain) but it all looks okay now. WHEW! What a relief. She said to just keep on w/ the ibu600 and percoset as needed and to do what i feel up to doing, which isn't much by the way. Hope all you sistahs are feeling okay today. HUGS ~goosey

Greetings all, happy halloween. Hit my 2 week mark on Sun, went to the Dr. on Tues, and he said all was well. He told me more about how the surgery went, and what to expect for the healing. Also told me I can't have sex until the middle of Dec. Talk about a shock! I didn't realize it would be that long. But he says I need time to heal inside, so i guess I'll believe him......But been feeling much better, am able to vacuum the house, and have be happy putzing around trying to keep things tidy. I've been given the okay to go back to work on Mon, and am excited to get back into the real world and have some human contact beside the 4 year old variety. All in all, guess I'm doing okay and feeling good. It's amazing what 2 weeks will do for you. Thanks to all who've cared and have been going thru this too! oh, and BOO! scared ya, didn't i?
