colonoscopy after TAH

I've been reading all these posts about colonoscopies and it makes me wonder why most people, not the ones on this board, refuse to have one. My aunt is a perfect example. She's 82 years old. She never believed in these tests. She always went to the dr., but never had a pap test or colonoscopy or mammogram, among other things. And the very fact that these tests can save your life if things can be caught early never interested her.

Well, about six months ago she started losing weight. Then it finally got to a point where she couldn't eat most things without being sick. So, she just happened to get a new dr. who insisted that she have a colonoscopy and a endoscopy. She had this done last Friday. And what the drs. found isn't good. They found a very large ulcer, which can be treated, but they are fairly certain she has stomach cancer. And all this could have been prevented if she would have only listened to her family and had these tests, which should be routine exams for everybody. Now we are sitting and waiting to find out what type of cancer it is. The drs. office said they would have the results today but they didn't. They told me it would be more like Friday because they are doing more specialized tests on the biopsies they took. Colon cancer is so treatable when caught early, and if my aunt did have one, I'm sure they would have seen the stomach cancer. I can't get my sister or my bro in law to have these tests either. What's wrong with people? Are they just scared and pretend it doesn't exist?

Anyway, if you could all send some prayers for my aunt, I would appreciate it. The dr. said that if she has the bad type of stomach cancer, there really is no treatment. If she has the other kind, they have to take out her stomach. I'm really worried for her. She acts like she isn't worried, but I know she is. Plus, she would have to have chemo and radiation. So if you could all say a big prayer that things turn out better than we expect, it would make me very happy.

They actually held you down???? I think that would cause me to be very fearful about future colonoscopys.

So sorry that happend to you.

I didn't mean to scare anyone. My first two colonscopies were fine. No pain, no bleeding and I don't remember anything about the procedure. I woke up thinking "did they even do anything?". I just wanted to warn to wait at least 6 weeks after abdominal surgery to have one! Sorry, if I scared anyone. The prep REALLY is the worse part.
