The "overdoing it" dilemma seems to be a common concern around week 2 post-op.

I have wondered the same thing.... just think that we need to realize that although we feel good on some days, that doesn't mean we can do ALL we used to do- and that's where I'm messing up.

Don't know about you, but I really don't think I've lifted, pulled, strained, etc. too much; but I can look back over the day and see where I have done so many little (acceptable) things- and overdid it simply because I tried to do too much.

One thing's for sure, when your body starts aching and the pain resurfaces, it's time for rest..... no matter how good we think we feel.

It's scary to think we may have overdone it and done damage to our insides.... but hopefully our bodies will warn us when we're getting out of line before it's too late..... our part is to LISTEN to our bodies and TAKE IT EASY.....

Believe me, I'm preaching to myself here more than anyone else.

Hope ya'll have a great weekend..... prop your feet up and enjoy being "the princess"!!

Hello everyone! I had LAVH 10/16 (uterus was 3 times bigger than normal & was filled with fibroids-also included appendectomy apparently it was "honkerblonked off") and seem to be recovering well. Had sx in the am & was released the next day @ 2pm. Followed all warning & felt great. Then on Sunday, 6 days postop, decided to pick up the house, went to Lowes & Walmart, did laundry, vaccummed - believe me I have paid for it since!!!! Have had swelly belly & pain since. I told the doc all but the vaccumm & he let me have it. LOL

Let me stand as a warning for all who are 1-2 wks postop - DON'T DO WHAT I DID! Rest and follow recommendation from doc and the checkpoints from hystersisters. BTW - hysters checkpoints are much more comprehensive than the docs.

Thanks to all who have posted - you were instrumental in my decision to proceed with the hyst. I think it's wonderful there are so many women supporting other women.

Resting comfortably,

Definitely sounds like you over did yourself. Not sure about the redness around the incision. Mine was laproscoptic (sp?) and the steri strips are still in place. It's probably healing, thus causing the itching. Take it easy! It's tough to learn that the hard way! Good luck w/ your recovery.

I'm home too!

Hey everybody! I had my hyst on the 17th. It was supposed to be a LVAH but turned into a TAH due to excessive scaring and my uterus was attached to my bladder. I had a hard time with the anesthesia and they couldn't get me "paralyzed" enough for her to do the surgery so they had to give me extra. Wednesday was pretty much a blur for me. I could hear my hubby and best friend talking and I could answer simple questions but I couldn’t seem to open my eyes. My best friend stayed at the hospital with me Wed. night and helped me shower (after the cath was removed) and walk the next day. I was so very grateful for her help. Got out of the castle on the 20th.

Hubby is wonderful but I have to stop myself from doing my usual routine. I've had a time with BM but after several stool softeners and some Milk of Magnesia I've gone!

Pretty much off the pain meds (Vicodin and Ibuprofen) except at night. Still have trouble sleeping and can't seem to get comfortable. It gets better every day.

Not quite 2 weeks post-op, but I drove my daughter to an activity today since hubby had to work. I went really slow and avoided the bumpy roads under construction. It wasn't bad, but I was a bit light-headed later in the day. I'm still trying to keep activities to one "big" one like that a day, but that is going to get more challenging as my parents left town today after helping with meals and kids since LVAh on 10-15. Hubby has been great but his enthusiasm is waning. And work called to remind me I have a job and need to get back to it. Definitely feeling like I need more time! Hopefully one more week at home will be enough to make me feel stronger!

10 days post op. Had dr. appt. yesterday. Recieved my path report all good news but a few surprises. I got to see the pics too. Dr. said the surgery took longer because I did have a fribroid that was hiding. It didn't even show up on the ultrasound. I had extensive endo that could cause a problem with bowels later on, GREAT. She also removed a cysts on my left ovary.

She told me to resume normal activity except for lifiting. However, I don't think she knows that my normal Friday night activity is a 2 hr grocery trip and laundry. I over did it and have been having some twinges of pain today. My wrist still hurts on the hand that had the IV as well.

I am still sore when I do any degree of walking or bending (not bending much at all yet!) BUT today I realized that I FEEL GREAT! I have energy, the pain I was in before is GONE, emotionally I feel solid as a rock. I am so glad that I did this! I just need to be sure I take it easy so I don't mess myself up. It's funny - my husband will see me starting to do something he thinks maybe I shouldn't and he'll say Excuse me, whatcha doin' there babe? And I go oh yeah sorry, I'll let you do that and he says THANK YOU

New to this place. I have been crying alot, I think my hormone patches aren't working. I'm a Realtor so I closed on 2 houses 7 days aftr surgery. I don't hurt other than the intest. pain. I feel old cause I now worry about whether I have "gone yet" or not. Recovery can be very amusing!

I am 11 days postop, and seems I'm a lot like the rest of you posting here. I too used stool softeners..which didn't work very well, so I bought and used Milk of Magnesia! WOW...it works! Better than anything else (including the tea) that I've tried. I drove last night to a bday party for a family member. I too got a little light headed, but all was good. I went straight to bed upon arrival back at home. No problems so far. Just have to take it easy. I am having very little pain...which is something I have never felt before! Only taking motrin for "back up". It also helps reduce the inflammation which can spark up after doing "too much". I am not taking any HRT yet. Waiting to see how things react. I had very bad migraine headaches before, and the Doc thinks it partially due to the estrogen. SO, I'm waiting and seeing. I did go out and get a new vitamin. It's women's calcium plus soy which is supposed to help with the hot flashes! Best wishes to everyone here! Sounds like we're all on the same level of recovery. That's reassuring too. Thanks sisters!

You can email me directly if you want too. <oops! email address removed for your security>

ALSO, congrats on closing 2 houses! That's remarkable with the market today! I work in construction so I know how wishy washy it is right now! That should be enough to keep your head up too, huh? Congrats!
