How much activity is too much?

I had an LAVH on September 11. It'll be 5 week tomorrow and I am still feeling really tired and sore. I have talked to my dr. several times and still don't know how much activity is too much! My surgery was almost 2 hours longer than expected and my DH thinks my recovery will take longer. I just don't know. I seem to have tolerance for one activity away from home a day. I don't want to just lay on the couch all day but I have no energy. Has anyone had these problems?

How much activity is too much?

At 5 weeks I was only able to handle one outting a day (1-2 hr) also. Try to do just a little bit more each day to build up your energy. You have to start small and work up. The more you do the more energy you will get. But remember you are still healing...so listen to your body and rest when it tells you too. You are not being lazy, just healing.

GOOD LUCK

How much activity is too much?

You're not alone. I had mine the same day and I feel the exact same as you. My surgery was long also (6.5 hrs) so maybe thats the reason also. Good luck and I'll pray for you.

I am so sorry that your recovery is taking longer than you expected. healing is so differant for everyone.

i can tell you the thing that has helped me the most is to walk. Even when i was tired -- I walked to the mail box --
walked to the end of the block -- walked at the mall -- then I could stop and rest.

How much activity is too much?

Thank you all for responding. It helps to know that I am not going crazy and expecting too much. I have been walking around and around my house since the surgery and it does help. Yesterday I started at the high school track and made a mile - that turned out to be WAY too much! I see my dr. on Thursday will see what she says.

How much activity is too much?

it is major surgery and takes time to heal even though you feel you are healed your insides arent .. my dr said walking is the only excersice he wanted me doing for the first 6 weeks and to try and rest a lot too. he said the first 6 weeks are the hardest . keep resting and healing. its normal to feel drained though you want to do things i hope your energy level picks up soon.
big hugs
