vaginal cuff not healing

I had a complete hysterectomy on 7/2/07 and I have had 2 incidents where my cuff has either popped a stitch or torn during intercourse with the most recent being last week. Dr. says that I must be a "slow healer" and we need to give it more time. How much time is enough? It has been over 3 months! We have only had intercourse these 2 times since surgery with the first time being almost 10 weeks from surgery. I was told after several visits and being treated with silver nitrate that it appeared to be healed then the same thing happened again. The pain was worse than childbirth when it happened. Does anyone have any advice or any similar situation? Thanks a bunch!

vaginal cuff not healing

What do you guys mean, the cuff is not healed at 6 weeks? I really thought that by 8 weeks I would be healed inside, especially since I am 5 wks and have not seen a stitch. I am in pain deep inside the va-jj that began 4 days ago so maybe I am not healed for 5 wks, where I should be. Can the doctor tell me tommorow what percentage I have healed to date?

Preceptionist the dr should do a internal check and tell you how the cuff is doing and how the stiches are .. do make sure to ask him if he doesnt tell you. good luck .. dr said some times people heal slower than normal and will take a lil longer for the cuff to heal ..

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Every once in a while we see a member who, for some reason, has this difficulty with their healing. I can imagine how painful it must be for you.

I was wondering if your dr has mentioned using a vaginal estrogen cream? Dr's will often prescribe it to help in a case of slow healing. It can do wonders for helping the tissue to heal up, when it is having trouble on it's own. If it hasn't been mentioned, I would suggest you ask about it. Even in cases where the dr isn't wanting to prescribe estrogen, sometimes they will do this on a temporary basis to help a patient over a situation like this.

If he has concerns you might want to ask him to explain how great they are and let you decide if you are willing to take the risk. I see you mentioned that you have had endo. Often drs are concerned about prescribing estrogen because it can feed any small bits that are left and cause them to grow. I hope you will find this situation will clear up soon. Let us know how you do.

Have you ever been on blood thinners? I had a VERY difficult healing period but it was related to friable tissue (thin, like TP, that tears easily). That was related to being on coumadin for 10 years prior to surgery. So unless you've been on coumadin, this will not be the case with you.

Good news...even I eventually healed! So take it easy and be realistic about your progress.

vaginal cuff repair

I am 6 months post surgery and am still hvaing problems with a small part of my cuff being torn during intercourse. This has happened 4 times and have been treated with silver nitrate and vaginal creams and nothing is working. I am going in for a CT to see if something else is causing this and am scheduled for surgery 2/1 to repair that area. My doctor says it is a very small area and she will reimforce by restitching this spot. Has anyone had anything similar happen? The other thing is that each time this area has torn during intercourse, the pain has been terrible and I have had gas pains along with it. Does this make sense? Thanks for your help!

I am so sorry you are having this problem still. My cuff tore open and I required emergency surgery since my intestines were coming out. Sorry TMI I know! There is another lady here that had it happen twice. I pray that once you have the surgery you will heal better. I had my cuff repair surgery on Oct. 29th and I still can't have sex! My doctor put stitches that need to be cut off so she can decide when I am healed enough for them to be gone. Hopefully with the surgery there will be fresh tissue that will heal properly. Please don't feel alone. I know how you feel. It is hard feeling like a freak because everyone else is healing and you are still at the start again. Please send me a private message if you want to talk. I know how the pain feels and some of the other issues that go along with this.
Prayers your way,
Janelle

vaginal cuff not healing

Well, I guess I feel better knowing that I'm not alone with the slow healing. I had my hysterectomy (and bi-lateral salpingo oopherectomy) December 3, and now at 9 weeks out, the doctor says my vaginal cuff is not healing properly. She says I have scar tissue that has created two "pockets" instead of the straight across healing that is normal. She also said it is still raw. I'm using estrace cream now. I'll let you know if it helps. Sex is still banned, but after hearing about the tearing thing, I'm kind of scared to even try it! This is hard because my boyfriend is being very patient, but he's 15 years younger and I know he's getting anxious... Anyone have good news for me?

This is beginning to worry me. I'm a very slow healer because of an autoimmune disease. I have to ask, are you all taking it really slow and gentle or getting rambunctious, so to speak.
