Hospital bills!

So far, I owe the hospital $100 and some company from another city for chest Xray - $9.00 I am so grateful for my insurance. I figure i need to stay employed at least 5 years for my followup care.

Hospital bills!

You guys made me curious. I haven't received any bills yet so I checked online with my insurance provider. It looks like about $40, 000 has been billed out so far for hospital, pre-op, doctors etc. I am horrified. My deductible is $1000 and out of pocket is $2400. Merry Christmas to me!

Hospital bills!

Well, I got my doctors bill and I owe close to 1000 for that one. I know the hospital billed 25,000 to insurance. So I am guessing I will be owing a lot since my insurance is horrible, and don't pay worth anything. Heck this is the company I had to fight with for me to go through surgery because they said it was not medically necessary even through I was dx with cervical cancer. Oh I don't even want to start seeing the bills for anything else I have to go through. Oh well, I had to do it for me to fight this nasty stuff.

Hospital bills!

The bills have come in for my surgery and they total about $17,000. I have no insurance. We paid the surgeon and received a reduction of 5%. We are still waiting to hear from the hospital what their decision is on a payment plan or additional help. I pray that people don't put off surgery like I did because of the cost. My situation was very bad by the time they did the surgery but I feel so much better now.

Hospital bills!

The only bill I've received so far is from my OB/GYN surgeon. His charge was $3,964. I had to pay him $360 and that is even with having met my insurance deductible already in May. This is supposed to be great insurance, but they don't seem to pay 100% of anything. Oh, I take that back, they did pay 100% on my postop office visit hemoglobin fingerstick and urinalysis. Whoop-de-doo!

By the way it was a hystersister, not the hospital who told me who I could expect bills from. I hope your insurance is at least a good as mine.

God Bless you,

My surgery was back in July and I recently got a collections call from an agency on behalf of my DOCTOR. The office sent the bill to the wrong address and then sent it to collections without so much as a phone call to me ~ I had no idea!. Not only that, I found out that my doctor is out of network (they failed to mention that when we worked out an estimated bill before surgery) so the surgery I thought was going to be about $2K out of pocket has snowballed into several thousand dollars. My anesthesia was also out of network and they work in pairs, my labs were out of network too.

I have never had a late payment or mark on my credit history in my whole life and now I am dealing with a nighmare trying to get this all paid. There went Christmas!!!

The only part that was in network and covered by insurance was the actual hospital bill. It was $18,943.38 and the insurance paid a negotiated fee of $4,091.05
What a gyp!

Hospital bills!

I am sitting here and don't know whether to cry or hit something! I am Canadian and have never seen a hospital bill in my life. My husband was diagnosed with Moyamoya syndrome in 1996 (a degenerative brain disease) and we have had hospital stays lasting weeks and neurologists and surgeons out the wazoo! Without a Provincial health care system we would have had to make some pretty tough decisions over the last ten years (like treatment for him or a roof over our children's heads!), (my TAH surgery or suffer)
Since we are only 45 minutes from Detroit we get alot of American TV, and alot of US election coverage. Where is your HEALTH CARE???
OK, sorry for the rant but I needed to get it out

Where is your HEALTH CARE???

An excellent and valid point, something many of us are asking, as well.

With reading everyone's posts, I feel somewhat fortunate in that my insurance carrier wants you to pre-pay the co-insurance before service is provided. At least that way I knew what it was going to cost in advance. And what if I couldn't have afforded the co-insurance? Am working on the assumption they would have worked out a payment plan??

Hospital bills!

For years I had no insurance and had to pay everything out of pocket. Luckily, I now have a job with benefits and didn't have to pay very much out of pocket for my surgery.
