Hospital bills!

I haven't gotten all of my final bills yet (and none at all for my last hospital stay) but so far, for my hysto and following complications, my bills are over $70,000. I have insurance, but I have a $10,000 out-of-pocket per year that I have to pay (thanks to a change my ex-husband made to my policy immediately before my hysto.)

My ex-husband and I always paid for our own insurance (expensive!), and he has to pay for my premiums as part of our divorce. If karma does indeed dole out justice, then my rates should sky-rocket in January.

I did have to give the hospital $7,000 up front before surgery and pay my doctor in full..
My one night in the hospital was $9,400. I cannot believe how all the hospitals charge so differently.
I am so sorry about you having to pay such a hugh amount. Perhaps you can get it lowerd. I think you can pay a very low amount every month. The Dr. might also his bill. Good luck.

That is a terrible insurance. I was without insurance when I divorced so went to work to just provide myself with insurance. I never had to use it for 15 yrs until now. I bet you could get better ins. by yourself and not pay $10,000. a year.

Hospital bills!

I've avoided this thread until now. I didn't want to stress about the cost of 5 days in the Castle with all the little extras that I needed.

The hospital bill came today. Not including my surgeon, the assistant surgeon (my gyne), ansthetist, or any of that other separately billable stuff, just the hospital bill was $48,500.

Thank God for insurance. I had back surgery earlier this year so I've already met my max out of pocket.

They may bill me a little extra for the private room, but that's all they had available, so I have an argument.

The doctor charged $1700.00 for his services - this includes all my post op and pre-op visits and his surgery fees.
Anthesiologist charged- $1500.00 that was "aside" from the charges of the hospital.
The hospital charged for the surgerical time, and the post op - which was about $5,000 then there are all the silly stupid charges - $2.00 for a sanitary pad (told the nurse I brought my own but they already had the bag open), drugs etc.
I don't think they are going to budge on my bill. I had to put $7,000 down the week before surgery and they had the nerve to call exactly one week after my surgery - I growled at the woman that I hadn't even received a bill yet.

GOOD FOR YOU
That is terrific, I am so glad that you are finished. My dh kept asking me when do the bills stop coming in, and I really couldn't answer him because I honestly didn't know.
