Leg numbness since surgery.....

Hello Ladies.....

I am so happy that my surgery is behind me (TAH/BSO via bikini cut on 10/16) and my recovery is well underway...... It's been blessedly void of any serious complications. God is good!!

I do, however, have a problem that is puzzling me and I would love to hear from any of you who may have experienced or heard of someone else experiencing this same thing:

The top of my left thigh from just below my hip to just above my knee is completely numb..... My leg feels like it belongs to someone else!

My Dr. was puzzled about it.... but thought it might go away on its own..... we're planning to talk about it again when I have my staples removed Monday.

Just wondering if any of you have any ideas......

Thanks so much for sharing your own experiences so freely..... each of you is truly a blessing!!

Leg numbness since surgery.....

I'm glad your recovery is going well! Although abdominal numbness is more common, it's not unusual for some ladies to experience leg/thigh numbness also.

If you try a "forum search" (click right on the main page of this forum) you'll find many threads/posts to browse through. You may also like to check out this HS article <link> Numb Thigh.

I hope you're able to get a better idea of what to expect, from your doctor, on Monday. Wishing you all the best and take care!

Leg numbness since surgery.....

I have the same problem except on the right side, my DR explained that when they have the incision open with the retractors that there is a nerve that runs along the side that can be affected. I'm 3 mos out and still have the numbness and yes it is very annoying/frustrating at times.

Thanks so much for your encouraging reply.

-Went to the link... sounded like I had written the question myself!

-Feel better just knowing this isn't the only time this has happened to someone.... Kdg... Do hope your "feeling" returns soon...

As always.... found just what I needed..... right here among the sisters!

Thanks again!!

Leg numbness since surgery.....

You just explained exactly what I was having problems with as well. I knew it wasn't a blood clot and it wasn't really affecting me other than being numb. Thanks for bringing it forward!!

Leg numbness since surgery.....

Me too, numbness on left outer thigh from hip joint down midway to knee, also some on right, same place. A friend who is an anesthiologist thought it was from the retactors as well.
I am 10 weeks out and it feels same as day one!

Leg numbness since surgery.....

I hope mine returns soon but speaking with my OBGYN yesterday he said with nerves there is never any specifics, mine doesn't ache and tingle as bad as it did 2 weeks ago and the area of my thigh that is as numb doesn't seem to be a big.

Leg numbness since surgery.....

I too had a TAH on Oct. 16th. I also have the leg numbness in exactly the same place. My doctor told me in the hospital that this was caused by swelling around a nerve and it would go away in a few days. It hasn't though. Hope we both can feel our legs soon.

Leg numbness since surgery.....

I guess there are much more serious things to complain about.... but I can't tell any difference in the sensation of my leg now at 2 weeks out.
What's so aggravating is that it "itches" and you can't feel it when you scratch.... strange.

Perhaps the doctors are right.... it will mend in time. Until then, I'm just thankful for all of the positive improvements coming as a result of the surgery.

Hope all else is going well with you also.
