Ovarian cancer, left cervix questions

After my hysterectomy, my gyn/onc informed us that he had left my cervix. I was under the impression that they would take everything. When questioned he just said that I was bleeding to heavy. Since I still have my cervix, I have to still go for yearly pap smears. The first one I had came back abnormal. A cone biopsy showed nothing unusual, but now I'm going back for a follow-up. My onc says its not related to my ovarian cancer and he is not real worried as he says my biggest concern is the ov ca. Is this normal?

Ovarian cancer, left cervix questions

I had my cervix removed during my hysterectomy/debulking surgery for Ovarian Cancr....and I still need to get yearly paps. They are just being overly cautious, my doc said, since the data is not clear on procedure after removal of your cervix.

I am glad they are being diligent in your follow up care, but sorry that you have that extra little worry. Hopefully, your next test will come back completely normal and you can relax in the knowledge that the abnormal test was a fluke.

in there!

Ovarian cancer, left cervix questions

I kept my cervix.....because I wanted to and the doctor felt that OvCa (I was early stage 1A) and cervical cancer have nothing to do with the other. The cervix does play a part in our health....it supports the pelvic floor and later could prevent urinary and bowel issues. I am sorry that you are having these issues, but, remember that they are totally separate issues. Did he remove your gallbladder, appendix? These organs are also subject to disease but aren't removed "just because".

I usually get a pap more then once a year as I am at the GYN/ONC more then that...I guess every other visit, so, every 6 months. And yes, women that have had thier cervix removed also get pap tests of the vaginal vault...or SHOULD.

I also had everything removed and I have had paps since my TAH/BSO on 11/20/2004. As a matter of fact I had my "every 4 month" check up yesterday and thought I was due for it again but he told me that I will have it on my next visit in January 2008.
