Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
There was great consideration give to whether or not I'd need a blood transfusion - my levels were at 6.3 when I was discharged initially. I did not wind up with one in the end, but entirely understand your fears. I understand there is a very small risk involved, as they told me. I should think with being three weeks post-transfusion, you would have encountered any possible problems by now?
I just wanted you to know my heart was with you. This whole business can be a bit terrifying.
Bless you.
Dina

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I had a transfusion a year ago when I had my other surgery. It make me nervous too but haven't had any problems. I'm hoping the blood supply is safe. I can understand you being nervous. I hope it goes well. Kathy

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I had blood transfusion post op. My HG was at 6 and I couldn't walk any distance at all without passing out, so I never had any choice.
Blood transfusions are much safer now than they have ever been, if you were going to react to the donated blood, that would have happened earlier than this, the blood is normally screened.
I know how worrying it can be also.
Good Luck

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I didn't need one for my hysterectomy. I was sweating it though. I did need a couple or more when I had DD fourteen years ago. But I figured that things were safe then. If I didn't have a transfusion when I needed it I wouldn't be here today.
I think the blood transfusions are okay.

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I had a blood transfusion after surgery due to internal bleeding and not properly clotting -(I am in that 2% statistic!! - had a second surgery 12 hrs later for the blood transfusion) I am 10 weeks out and feeling pretty great!

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I had a transfusion the day after surgery. I've donated blood through the Red Cross for almost 20 years, and have watched the screening process become more and more stringent over the years. Of course there are risks, but overall the blood supply here in the U.S. is very safe.
An interesting article from the CDC:

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
Hi all,
T had a SAH/BSO two weeks ago. I needed a blood transfusion 2 days afters surgery, they said some number had dropped from 36 pre surg to 24 day after and 18 next day.
My BP was very low (I tend to runner higher and pulse was racy). They said I lose more blood during surg than originally
thought.
Now since I've been home I've been on Repliva an Iron/B12/Folic Acid replacement therapy. I hate it but need it.
How long does it take to start feeling energetic. For 2 weeks I have up and down days. Yesterday was great loads of energy, today terrible. Is my body still repairing itself from the loss of blood.
Thanks sisters, you have all been so wonderful. This experience was easier because you were all there.

Has anyone else had to have blood transfusions?
I had a blood transfusion in August. My red blood cells were really low. That is what lead to having my hysterectomy so soon. I had 4 pints of blood. Spent 24 hrs in the hospital. I was assured the it was screened and safe by both my OB, the hematologist and the hospital staff. I haven't had any problems with it.
