Have you tried any sleep aids? I'm taking ambien and I know some it doesn't work for some. I've been having trouble for about 3 weeks. Ambien does get me some sleep. Acutually last night I sleep till 5am and that was 7hrs for me. The first time in 3 weeks. There are other things over the counter that can help, tyn pm advil pm, I use to get sleep with melatonin. It doesn't work any more for me. I think my problem is the estrogen. Too much makes me anxious. Some foods I've heard helps to relax is oatmeal, bananas, warm miik(not crazy about that one). Walking and fresh air help to relax me too. I'm with you with the anxiety. I take antianxiety meds as well. I'd try the natural route first but then if you are still having trouble please call you doc. and get some help for your sleep. It makes my anxiety terrible when I don't sleep. hang in there.

Surgical menopause symptoms

Had my 6 week check up yesterday -- and given the all clear -- DR asked about menopausal symptoms -- guess nothing to bad at this time. She is only going to treat if they get totally unliveable -- then will wean me off

Instead of hot flashes -- I have cold flashes -- ( give me my sweat shirt!!!) -- Last night was the first real night of no sleep and pretty restless -- could be because the dr gave the all clear -- and worried about what the first time would be like.

I do like the Celestial seasonings night time tea -- so will keep that around for any other sleepless nights.

I have had a couple nights where I wake up feeling a little hot and sweating -- but usually DH is cuddled up and he is a hot body -- so we normally have windows open -- right now we stilla re running air conditioner at night in room.

One of the hand outs that the dr handed me -- talked about Alternative approaches
for hot flashes
-- keep track of things or events that set them off -- stress?? foods? spicy foods?? then try to avoid those
--sleep in cool room use fans for circulation
--practice deep breathing for 15 min in AM and in PM
--drink cool beverages
--wear layers of cotton clothes

For menopausal sleeplessness
-- keep bedroom cool
--excercise 30 minutes daily
-- wear light clothing of natural fibers (does wearing nothing count?)
-- avoid caffine
--take warm shower or bath
--drink warm milk

Mood and Anxiety
--use relaxation techniques
--decrease caffine
-- join support group ( yeah for hystersisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
set aside 15 minutes a day for worrying -- then only worry during those 15 minutes (does that really work???)

They hand out did have one warning on Natural meds

dong Quai -- I guess that Kaiser Permanente did the first research on it -- and said it showed it was no more helpful that the placebo-- but there were concerns about the saftey of the medicine and does not recommend it.

Not sure if any of this will help anyone
but more info can not hurt right?

Best wishes to nights of sleeping and no hot flashes and mood swings during the days to everyone.

Surgical menopause symptoms

I did try the pills pre surgery, but soon found out after doing a google, I shouldnt be taking the pills due to my triglycerides are too high, but I dont remember any pain in my tummy from the pills... I have tummy aches all the time, I think stress is the reason... now that I am sleeping better with my ambien, I seem to be less stressed...

How long you been on Lexapro? When I took it last year before my surgery (dr says I was depressed not peri menopausal) I slept for 12 hours a day I would get up take my teen to school go back to bed get up and work afew hours (work from home) and this would go on and on and I gained 20 pounds, I had to get off of it.. I am feeling a bit lost and sad these days and know I may need something, going to try st johns wart or 5 HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) I have read about before going back on the prescription meds for mental help.... I hope they work... GOOD LUCK..
