I knew something wasn't right...
I've been having pain for the last 3 weeks. I'm just over 12 weeks post op and it just didn't feel right - GP thought I was probably overdoing things, but sent me for an ultrasound on my insistence on the second visit.
Lo and behold, there it is... a tennis ball sized cyst on my right ovary. You've got to be kidding me - I just had a massive fibroid removed! What, my body couldn't cope with the space or something??
Results won't get to my GP until this afternoon which means I won't get in to see her until Monday (it's Friday pm here), so those of you who have experienced these things before, what do I expect? Does this mean more surgery? I haven't had a cyst before (that I've been aware of), so any advice would be gratefully received

I knew something wasn't right...
I've had multiple cysts in the past which have either been left to 'pop' on thier own which is really painful or I've had them drained via a laparoscope.
Good luck

What type of pain were you experiencing? I am 8 weeks out and am experiencing pain on my right side. My right ovary is the only thing I have left. Anyway, I have spoken to my DR each time I have seen him regarding this pain and he says it is normal, but I'm just not sure I agree with that. The pain has actually been more consistent this week, in fact daily. So I am wondering if I need to call him again and if I am experiencing the same type of pain as you. Please let me know.
thanks.

Thanks everyone for responding
I have a constant achy pain on my right side which goes through to my hip and lower back. I also get some sharp twinges on the right side just where my ovary is - very specific, location-wise. If it had just been a few days pain, then I could have put it down to normal ovulation pain, but 3 weeks is a long time to ovulate!
You know yourself if it doesn't feel right. Mine doesn't feel like the same pain I've had while recovering from surgery. Insist on an ultrasound if you want reassurance.
I know it sounds strange, but I feel kind of relieved that I know what it is. I was more worried thinking I'd done something to damage all the repairs!

I knew something wasn't right...
I had a 7 cm cyst on my right ovary about 3 years ago. Never knew it was there as it didn't cause me any pain until the night I went to the ER. It started as an annoying pain that would come and go and almost felt like I had to have a BM, but that never came. I mentioned it to my mom while we were out doing Christmas shopping -- this was the week before Christmas! After we got back to her house, we had lunch and I took my daughter home to put her down for a nap and told mom I was going to lie down as well until my son got home from school. I did sleep, but when I awoke, the pain was much worse. DH asked me if I wanted to go in and I said no, I think I just have to go to the bathroom. He then proceeded to give kids a bath and by the time he was finishing up with the second one, I was screaming into my pillow. I told him it was time to go in. He asked where I wanted to go and I said Green Bay as that is where my dr's and hospital are. AFter I stood up, I said take me to Chilton (that hospital was only 3 blocks away, but not covered by our insurance). I went through the normal stomach pain routine with drinking a GI cocktail and stuff, which didn't work of course. Next I had to drink that horrible contrast stuff for a CT scan. It was there they found the ovary. the ER doc said that it was the size of an orange. I know, 7cm is a very small orange, so I'm confused there. Anyway, my blood work was all screwed up too and they thought it was appendicitis at first, but then found the cyst.
OK, fine. DH can take me up to Green Bay for the surgery. I was told it would have to be removed adn they would take my appendix as well since they were in there. No argument from me. I've always been paranoid about that little thing. Doc says no way. If you have to go to Green Bay, you will go by ambulance, not private auto. Nice. I work on that ambulance too, so that was interesting. So here it is, 3:00 in the morning and I'm taking my very first ambulance ride as a patient.
So anyway, I had to have surgery. I'm not sure why it couldn't have been drained like some of you mentioned, but they (3 docs) thought it best to remove it. I didn't care about that either except that it was the WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS! And I was having my dh's family up for Christmas. Good thing I got a ton done early. That's where my big vertical incision came from. Bellybutton to pelvic bone. Wonder why I couldn't have a bikini cut? In the hospital for 4 days and Christmas 4 days later. yikers. December seems to be my time for surgeries, though I beat it this year!
Good luck with your cyst. I hope they can fix it without surgery. I also hoped I didn't scare you -- I just thought I'd share my experience too. Other people seemed to get by with them draining it. Hope it all goes well for you.

So sorry to hear about the cyst, but really glad that you listened to your body and pushed for an ultrasound. Keep us posted on the outcome.

I knew something wasn't right...
Hi Helga,
Thanks for the reply. I am going to see how things go over the weekend and if the pain persists at all, I will call the Dr. on Monday. My pain is definitely localized in one area(ovary). I too wonder if I have done something to create a problem or if there are adhesions forming. Just don't know. I'm sure there are many different possiblities.
Good luck to you and again, thank you for replying.

Helga,
So sorry for the delay in responding - I wanted to return the favor and say that now, I in turn, will be praying for you and your speedy resolution to this. I agree that sometimes just knowing what the issue is, makes things much easier on the old anxiety-ticker.
Giant hugs and prayers for you.
d.
