Hysterectomy, Peri-Menopause and Fibromyalgia

I am not quite sure where to go with this question. I have for quite a few years dealt with Fibromyalgia. The last at least 2 years I have been going through Peri-Menopause in which I was on HRT and then Birth control pills and then taken off altogether a week before my surgery. I just had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. I was a real basket case right after my surgery physically and emotionally so my doctor put me back on hormones. To make a long story short, these conditions all have multiple symptoms as well as interactions with one another. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with a similar situation and could relay their experience. How do I know what is what at this point? I have pain that I would consider was related to the Hysterectomy. But I also have pain in other parts of my body. Did anyone find that the Hyst. aggrevated the Fibromyalgia? Did you find a longer recover time? Flair ups? And how do I know if hormones and / or menopause are a problem verses the Fibromyalgia which can also cause depression, cognative problems, etc? And how do I know what is just normal recovery from the Hystectomy?

Anyone have any feedback on this?

There is a post on here that us girls with autoimmune diseases and hyst are posting on. There really are a lot of us on here. Some with fibro and some with others like me. I have lupus, sjogrens, and raynauds. To answer your question about the flares from the hormones and surgery everyone is different. It did take me 2 weeks after the hyst to be able to extend my arms or close my hands because my joint were so inflamed. Please look up this post and join us.

Hysterectomy, Peri-Menopause and Fibromyalgia

Hi (((Juliejane)))
I haven't dealt with fibromyalgia, but I do have MS so I can empathize with your struggle to figure out what is what. I think it's best for you to talk with others who have fibro since the symptoms are so specific.
I wanted to share the link to the thread Janelle referred to. https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...t=fibromyalgia

I'm looking to see if I can find some others for you that might help too.

Here are a couple that might be helpful. I wonder if you have done any reading in the Hormone Article List ? I'm just thinking it might be helpful if you gathered information on what symptoms are normal perimenopause issues. I'm at that same stage and it is hard sometimes to know what's going on with your body.

I don't mean to over whelm you with links, but there is an article that gives the symptoms of too much/too little estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. I think that might be a good one for you.

Keep us posted. I hope you can get this sorted out so you can find the answers you need.
's, Rita

Hysterectomy, Peri-Menopause and Fibromyalgia

Thank you so much for your help, support and suggestions. I truly appreciate it. I am feeling a lot of muscle pain right now and I know that it is not just the hysterectomy. So, I am trying to find out what others have experienced. People's stories help me more than anything. That is why I love the connections here.

Hello, and I understand....

Ditto to the auto immune hyst link... I'm in it too and it has made ALL the difference in this recovery time for me! There's about 13 pages so far of us supporting each other.

I too am wondering, what's fibro, what's hyst post op pain, and what's hormones (i have ovaries) etc..... I'm 3 weeks post op and really need time, more than I thought.

My night sweats are easing up a little...

Know you are not alone!

Hysterectomy, Peri-Menopause and Fibromyalgia

I too am in the same boat as you Julie. I am 6 months post op and am still having trouble figuring out what is what. I have had extreme flare-ups of my fibro, my doctor's have made a fortune off of me lately. lol For me, I am just tackling one problem at a time and with my pain management team we are slowly finding solutions. My doctor started me on Lyrica which although it is not a pain medication, it corrects the way the brain receives pain signals and it has been a tremendous help for me.

I was having such a horrible time with anxiety for awhile there, they started me on Zoloft, and now that it is under control I have switched back to Cymbalta to get a handle on the depression and fibro pain. I swear sometimes I feel like I am in a washing machine. The next task at hand is the night sweats LOL.

Wow, I rambled on for a bit...guess I needed to get that off my chest a bit. My intended point was, I don't think we will know what is specifically causing or aggrevating our pains, and mental issues....we are blessed with a multitude of possibilities. I spent so much time feeling depressed because I was feeling bad, please don't go that route. Once I picked myself up and got proactive things became clearer. Drive your doctor crazy til you can find some relief, go talk to someone objective and just know that you will come out the other side better and stronger.
