blood clot

No I don't think i have one, I was just curious. But, I have been having trouble with my left leg going numb. I am almost 4 weeks post-op and it is really bothering me. It wakes me up in the morning. I am tryin gto eat more bananas thinkin g it is low potasium levels. Thats what my hubby thinks. Plus the weather here in MO. has been $#@&^.. so I haven't been able to get out and walk, so I have been taking the usual laps around the house. Plus I have been triying to stand up straight more. i don't know. They just feel restless (my legs).

Does anyone know how long your at risk for blood clots following surgery?

You can be at risk for several weeks if you are not moving around much. The more you move the less the risk.

I had similar problems with legs feeling and numb and achey. It is finally gone!

I did too. Pain and numbness. I actually called my DR and she had me come in for an ultrasound. Luckily no clots.

blood clot

I have had pain in my right knee for 5 or so weeks, the pain can go up my back thigh and down my back calf as a dull ache, but the pain really is concentrated on my knee.. They did an ultrasound too, called a Doppler scan? that was over 3 weeks ago, the preliminary result was no clot but I know there is something there, I wanted answers wondering if its a cyst behind my knee like I had 16 years ago, but they have yet to get the official results back, so bad they are!! I have to take Motrin daily and its hard to walk, not sure if I am causing more damage when I walk. I use a neoprene brace that helps a tiny bit, I am so worried I had my dr do a uric acid blood test for gout, it came back at the high end of the limits, a 6.0... not sure if thats the problem. Really don't trust her, so though she says it ok.. I am trying to do a Google on 6.0 if that still can be gout, but not much info so far.... I sure hate to limit my days activity for the past weeks due to pain and fear of further damage. I just woke up with full on pain one morning, so weird.

After surgery you are at risk of a blood clot for at least several weeks and possibly longer. I was admitted with a clot at 3 weeks post op, but I corresponded with a woman who was treated for a clot at 2 months post op.

The risk of a clot may be increased by other factors, including family history, smoking history, type of surgery, etc. Prolonged inactivity post op is another risk factor. The sooner you get up and walk, the better. When sitting, do NOT cross your feet at the ankles or your legs at the knees. For more information, read this Hystersisters' article.
