Tension in chest?????

Had TAH/SO on10/9/07. Feeling better every day and able to slowly go back to normal routine. I have been experiencing pressure at bottom of rib cage in the center. It basically feels like a brick is sitting there. No shortness of breath, etc. Saw my Doc this week and he thinks it is anxiety from surgery- recovery and all the changes - it is driving me crazy and has to be the most annoying thing so far post op for me. We ran chest xrays and EKG just to be safe - I am taking Bio-identical's - has anyone experienced this. I've noticed that at night when I am sleeping it doesn't bother me?????

Tension in chest?????

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are having discomfort at the base of the sternum. Although not common, some women experience sternal pain when they have a low blood count (hemoglobin) or following a blood transfusion.

I am assuming your doctor has checked your hemoglobin level recently?

The following link is a detailed list of potential causes of chest pain:
http://www.heartprotect.com/chest-pain.shtml

And, here is one more for another cause of chest pain:
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/costo...article_em.htm

Hope this helps. I wouldn't necessarily settle for the anxiety diagnosis without digging deeper............Take care......s......Deb

Tension in chest?????

I don't know much about medical issues so I don't want to dissuade you from pursuing the discomfort with your doctor further. But it could also be "referred pain" where the pain from one area of the body is felt in another part of the body. Pregnant women sometimes have pain when their diaphragm is being pushed but feel the pain in their shoulders. In the early weeks of my recovery from the TAH, I had some similar pain as you described and my doctor said it was probably that "referred pain." Definitely have your doctor look at all possibilities.

Hope this helps you!

Ted96:

Thanks so much for the encouraging reply. Referred pain makes total sense to me. Maybe compensating for our stomach using more chest muscles????? Thanks again
