Sleeping Problems

I'm not quite 2 wks. post op and have not been able to sleep for most of it. Nurses suggestion was take tyl. pm or benedryl to sleep. 2 benedryls, which has always knocked me on my behind, let me sleep about 2 hours. HELP. I don't think I can soak in a hot tub yet, though I am able to shower. I haven't tried the p.m. pills yet cause they have in the past left me feeling under the influence til at least noon the next day. I'm really not riding the emotional rollercoaster yet, as a result of the hormone change, but I feel like this whole sleep issue is a direct result of the hormone changes. I fell like my recovery to date has been exceptional, I wore clothes home from the hospital and aside from alot of pulling/tearing/burning pain in my lower left side, mostly while i'm trying to lie down or sleep, my pain has been VERY WELL tolerated. I don't think it's the pain keeping me from sleeping I think it's in addition to not being able to sleep. I don't think i will heal as fast as i could if i'm not getting enough sleep. Any suggestions are appreciated. soulm8

Have you tried hot cammomile tea? An herbal remedy like Valerian Root or Melatonin? A hot shower, cup of tea, and light a candle and then read a good book until you can't keep your eyes opened. I used these right after my surgery and I was able to fall asleep easier. I also tried Ambien a few times and was able to get some rest.

I'm glad your recovery is going well but sorry you're having trouble sleeping. So many ladies experience this problem and, hopefully, will be along to share their experiences.

If you try a forum search on the subject (click right of the main page of this forum) I think you'll be amazed at just how many posts you'll find to read through. You may also like to check out this HS article <link> Post-Op Insomnia which will also give you lots of information.

Wishing you all the best as you continue to heal.

lunesta or ambien works wonders. once you get into a normal sleep pattern, you will feel so much better. you can stop taking them and see if it continues or you could have to continue taking them. i have been taking either for years. theres nothing like a good nights sleep for your body and mind.

Thanks so much pooodle & dressedupinblue. I've finally hit my 2 wk mark and can take a bath. Also having GREAT weather here, so some sunshine may be helping. Also tried rapid release tylenol pm. That seems to have worked with no "hangover" effect.
