nasty bowel cramping and gas

I am 5 days post-op and am having a lot of problems with bm's. I wasn't able to "go" until day 4 and then it was crazy! 5 bm's the first day, 6 the next and with a lot of very painful cramping before I went. It continues on and I am hoping that things will get regular soon. I am so relieved to hear that this is considered within normal after surgery. Thank you for the peace of mind and helpful suggestions sisters

Hi , I have some things that might help, They helped me. Walk around the house more and when your walking hold your shoulders up and back. Stand straight dont cruch over. do this every two hrs and also sit on the potty and lean forward hold it 3 seconds and come up slow until your straight up this will help you pass gas. I was having a heck of a time passing gas I had lots of it and this seem to work. The more you lay the more youll have you have to move it around. Gooa Luck Hun!!!!

One of the older more experienced nurses when I was in the hospital told me that laying flat on your back when you lay down will not help in getting the gas to move downwards. Rotate laying on either side while you sleep. I thought she was nuts until I spent a night doing this and it reallllllly helped get the gas moving down and out!! I felt so much better the next day, I was amazed.

Hi Princess Annie....I experienced very painful cramps building up to each bm until maybe about 2 weeks ago....I am 10 weeks out....I think, in my opinion, that when we have had something removed..like in my case my uterus...that the organs, bowels have to reposition somehow...and maybe until your body gets used to it and also heals properly that this troublesome bm just goes along with it.....my cramping has gone away finally!!!

Sorry Sandybird....did not mean to frighten you....the pain was not unbearable and only felt it few minutes before bowel movements...gas x helped me alot...boxes of them first few weeks...lots of water and walking around...it still, to me, was much better knowing it was temporary, than ever having to deal with the painful periods that lasted for weeks at a time!!!....
