I had surgery on 11/01 and came home on 11/4 the dr. said I should take
Milk Of Magnesia if I did not have a BM on 11/5, which of course I didn't. So I took some of M. O .M and it really helped, for the gas pain I take gas x strips
and that really helps.

gas and bm pain

Hi everyone,
this is my first post. I think I have some good solutions to maybe help everyone here. I am six weeks out post op and off pain meds and regular with very little pain left. And none with bms now. I had all of what everyone is describing as far as the symptoms go.

Here is what I did:
for the first two weeks I took M.O.M once a day in half doses. I don't weigh very much so didn't need as much M.O.M, take full dose if your over 100 pounds. I took a pillow to the bathroom with me to brace my tum for this time. putting it on my tum when I had to push. That helped so so much. Less pain afterwards as well.

To get the gas to move I used a pillow btween my legs and one right up under my legs just moving around as I normally would when I slept. This helped in keeping it from going to my shoulders. Getting up and walking as much as I could handle also helped. I stay away from spices and veggies that cause gas as well, i.e: garlic, onions, beans, colliflower, brussle sprouts and brocolli. Green leafy veggies seem to help the most. If the gas is extreme a cup of chamomile tea or fennel seeds boiled in a cup of water can sooth the intestines.

My Nurse was awesome, she explained it to me this way:
After the surgery the intestines run directly over the area where the cervix and uterus is removed and the internal stiching and trauma causes the pain when it goes over that spot, as it heals the pain gets less and less. The first few weeks are abit rough but things do get easier as you go. I don't need the M.O.M. anymore. There is a period in that six week area that I was loose as a goose what I did for that was the exact opposite. I took half doses of kaopectate.

Also during that time I ate rice. Rice is easy to make and also has the energy building stuff you need to reccuporate.

I hope this is helpful to everyone

wow, it good to here that i am not the only 1 going through this horrible pain. gee when does it end. im too scared to leave the house at the moment because when i gotta go man I GOTTA GO !
and yes it is exactly like the uncontrolable contractions of labour just to make i interesting my hemoroids started to bleed, like u said LSH112 what do they do in there. peppermint tabs like "De Gas" i found worked well to keep the gas pain under control but i found peppermint oil capsules "Mintec" way too harsh, burned on the way out, if you know what i mean, dont need the extra pains.
ah well, life goes on, im off for my nanna nap, he he.

not so normal pace, might have an infection. would be best to talk to your doc, are you running fevers?

No i am not having any fevers, but seem to have some bloating due to the time of month? Sounds odd , I won't obviously be getting a period but i "feel "that kind of bloating. I am thinking the body goes though the same stages of "that time of month" even though there is no uterus?

nasty bowel cramping and gas

I'm 2 weeks postop tomorrow - I too am having discomfort mostly with gas and moving through the bowels to get to the outside - must be pretty typical after the surgery with bowel manipulation. I get gassy from foods that aren't gassy, and am taking stool softeners and eating fiber, drinking a lot of water. Hopefully it will ease up soon - the cramping before a BM also stops me in my tracks - can't even talk through it!
