Hi Sisters,

5 weeks, 1 day and feeling pretty darn good. I remember day 2 after getting home and wishing that I was weeks ahead in recovery. Well, I'm here now, still taking it slow and hurting every now and again but so much farther ahead and feeling very fortunate. Even able to roll and rest on my side for a few minutes every now and again. It's all little baby steps but then it hits you out of the blue and you think... hey.. hold the phone.. I couldn't do that last week!!!...lol. I went for the stairs head on with ease a few weeks back (was going up backwards the whole time)and half way up I stopped short and thought ...check this out. I LOVE stuff like that!

Recovery has been amazing with no real issues. I've had the luxury of pampering myself for the entire time and haven't had many issues with the HRT other than dry eyes/mouth. I only took 500mg Panadol (basic off the shelf brand) as soon as I got off the morphine. I really didn't want to take anything stronger and mess with the bowel situation. I'm still taking at least 2 doses a day, I don't see that stopping for a while. I was glad to hear I wasn't the only one still taking some form of med! My only bizarre concern is for the pubes that have been sewn into and are now forever trapped inside my incision??!! What's going on there I wonder...

Furthered my recovery and got into the spirit by overseeing all ornament hanging and making a couple batches of cookies which made me feel better even emotionally! But everyone is right, you definitely have to take it easy even when you feel better.

Glad to see we're all still hanging in there. I'm off to the docs next Thursday for my 6 week check up and hoping the internal doesn't have me hanging from the ceiling and sending everyone in the waiting room running from the screams....lol...

Big hugs to everyone out there on the path..... Keep up the great work ladies.... you're in my thoughts.

Woobie,

It is so glad to hear from you I was wondering how you were doing! I am so glad to hear that you are healing nicely.

You made me laugh about your 6 week visit. I am so nervous about mine. I saved some meds just for that visit. But, I am sure we will be fine.

Too funny about the 6 week exam. I'm concerned also. Gee, I just can't imagine the internal part, so it makes me really wonder about intimate relationships.

I feel like I even made progress today. I even cooked simple dinner tonight with minimal help. My son got out the crockpot and my daughter had to get some rice out of the pantry, but I did the cooking. My DH cleaned up because I was just pooped out.

My DD is out, but I may have to go to bed before she makes it home..

don't worry

So glad to hear progress from you ladies - I had my four week exam on the 27th - had an internal and I had a TVH with many, many repairs. I will tell you that while I was nervous for the exam, it did not hurt when she did it. I felt it about three hours later, however, and had some pretty good pain for about an hour or two. I was stubborn and did not want Percocet, so took 800 mg ibuoprofen and laid down and toughed it out for about an hour and a half. I saw quite a few remnants of stitches after that for about a day. I don't go back to the doc until 9 weeks, because 8 weeks was on Christmas day. I think an exam at 6 weeks will be fine, especially if you had a TAH, and even with a TVH, because I'm so surprised it wasn't worse than it was for me at four weeks!

Best wishes to you ladies at your 6 week appointments! I will be 6 weeks on Monday!!!! Just in the last two days I have noticed how much better I am - I have to be really careful not to overdo because I feel so good now!

uh, I had an internal exam last week. I had an abdominal surgery, -- TAH/BSO. No problem with the internal exam. No problem afterwards. Just the normal poking and prodding, minus the pain of poking at the inflamed ovaries....

Hey Guys,

Let me know how you go with the docs appt next week. I'll be thinking of you.

slplante / scootery - thanks for the encouragement.

I can't believe sometimes how well it's actually been and have felt a bit guilty with the problems that some of the ladies are having so days go by and I don't get my butt on this thing! I have missed it....

As for the internal, I guess because it still feels so raw and tender in there the thought of having a speculum and strange fingers poking around isn't bringing on those happy thoughts!! I can't even fathom the concept of getting intimate with my partner.... poor guy... should have seen his face when I brought that up over tea...lol....

Coming Along!

5 weeks and 2 days in...
I am finally feeling a little (emphasis on little) more energetic. Have been back to work full-time (10hr days) for almost 2 weeks now. It is still hard to be comfortable by the end of the night, but I am doing fine with almost no pain meds... Although yesterday and today left me with a strange vaginal sensation - tension/pressure - that by the time I got home this a.m. I made a beeline for the vicodin! But most days I don't even bother with ibuprofen, unless I have been too active.

I started Premarin 1.25 about 1.5 weeks ago, to deal with crazy emotions.... and am just starting to see signs of my original self (pushing that she-devil back to wherever she came from!), much to the relief of DF! I still have a ways to go here, but I can see the light!

My pace is beginning to quicken... I usually move about pretty fast, so it has been Monotonous to move so slowly! I am not quick as before, but getting there!

It is amazing... Just like Woobie1, I will start doing something and go ,"Wow, I am doing this!" And after a quick, "should I be doing this?" I am managing to carry on... Progress!

Happy Recovery, Ladies!

Laura - You may have described some of my feeling ... strange vaginal tension/pressure. I describe it as feeling like I have been riding a bike.

I had my 6-week check up yesterday. The first thing the doctor asked me is if I've been sexually active. I laughed at him, no way.

I'm not healed yet he said, a couple more weeks, not to lift anything over 10 pounds, no vacuuming (****!), no heavy exercise, etc. I can return to work full-time which is my plan Monday morning. So I went out last night and bought 4 new velour sweatsuit outfits so I'll be comfortable.

Anyway, yesterday I was the most active I've been since surgery. I worked 4 hours in the morning (from home), went to the doctor, went out to lunch with a friend, and then went shopping at the mall last night. It surprised me how well I felt. A little sore, alot tired, but definitely feel like I'm ready to get back at it.

It's amazing how a couple of days make the difference on how we feel. I was also tired and did not feel like doing anything. Yesteday, I also went to the dr. came home cooked something and got ready to go to a party. It was a nice get together and I did not feel tired at the end of the night.

I still don't have my post-op check up and I see the dr. for wound cleaning, I guess on Tuesday when I see him I will ask him about that.

I'm glad everyone is a little better.
